Maison

I have a beautiful one-bedroom apartment. It's nicely furnished and well-equipped (dishwasher, washing machine, vacuuming robot, wireless internet). It's overlooking a small park, which is great for kids in the summer.

It is a perfect size for one or two, comfortable for three, and manageable for four. There is a double bed in the bedroom, the sofa is big enough & comfortable enough for someone to sleep on, and I have an air mattress as a spare. The bathroom is small, so nearly all its 62 m2 goes to the living areas, especially the living room.

Quartier

Jyväskylä is a very pleasant, large town in central Finland with 80,000 inhabitants. It has a vibrant town centre, but also plenty of beautiful lake and forest areas within easy walking distance. You'll find more information at this link: http://jyväskylänseutu.fi/travel

It's a great place to visit if you want to have a quiet holiday enjoying nature (e.g. swimming and relaxing by the lake) but still want to be close to shopping, restaurants, cafes etc. There are also LOTS of rental cottages in wilderness areas in Finland if you want to have some time completely removed from civilization.

Summer in Finland can be surprisingly sunny and warm. Last year it was over 30oC for at least a month. Of course, it depends on your luck, as it can get rainy too (though not as much as the UK/Ireland).

My apartment is in a good area about 15min from the centre by foot or 5 min by bike. There are lakes&beaches within walking distance where you can swim or even canoe in the summer.

I don't own a car, as Jyväskylä is so easy to get around by bike. If I travel with someone and my companion has a car, it may be included in the exchange.

For winter exchanges: There's a small ski centre just a 5min bus journey from the apartment, with slopes for down-hill skiing or snowboarding, and extensive forest tracks for cross country skiing (http://www.laajavuori.com/english). The bus leaves right outside the apartment building (it also goes to the centre of twon).

There's also a bigger ski resort 20km south of Jyväskylä, which you can get to in 15min by car (http://www.riihivuori.fi/english).

There are also plenty of lakes around the town to ski or skate on in the winter.

* The 1000 Lakes Rally (or Neste Oil Rally) takes place in Jyväskylä during the summer. It's an important international rally event, with about 500,000 spectators.*

I am a 31 year old Irish/Finnish woman who teaches at the university here. I would either travel alone or with a friend. I've done one summer home exchange already to the Netherlands, which was a great experience! The family I exchanged with loved Finland and Jyväskylä!

I have a very friendly little dog, who could stay with friends during the exchange if you are not a dog lover. I'm happy to look after a pet during an exchange myself.

I'm very tidy and love my home. I would take care of yours with the same respect!

Destination

I love travelling, so will consider all destinations! Christmas and summer vacations are the best times.

*I'm really hoping to visit New York this summer with a friend! A non-simultaneous exchange to New York would also be possible. And I'd be also interested in renting an apartment there*
