Maison

Our house is a 3/5 bedroom typical Spanish White Village house on 3 floors. This is our holiday home which we also rent out for weekends and summer holidays mainly to Spanish people.
There is a small patio before you enter the main door wonderful to sit and have your morning coffee. The Ground floor consists of a low ceilinged wooden beamed sitting/Dining room with a wood burning fireplace/chimney for those cooler winter nights. There is a TV with local TV channels.
There is a small kitchen (with a microwave, cooker, coffe maker, juice maker and otoaster) and bathroom as well. Also on this floor is a room with a sofabed that can be used as a bedroom. Past this room and out the door to the interior patio with the "laurel tree" which we have named the house after is the interior patio. Last year we built a large barbecue all down one wall of the patio. This is perfect for cooking/eating after a hard day on the beach or in the mountains. The silent nights watching the stars twinkle is the perfect end to your day.

Up to the second floor where there is a double bedroom at the top of the stairs. Then through another door to an open area with another wood burning fireplace/chimney (only really used in deep winter). Off this area is another double bedroom to your left. There is also another main bathroom off this area and an area with a washing machine.There is also another entrance door although this is rarely used. Through yet another door and there is another large bedroom or sitting room with a large sofa that is made of 2 single beds, that is perfect for kids if you want them to sleep in there or just for them to rest. There is a TV/DVD in this room.

Finally up to the top floor which a is a spacious light double bedroom with views over the mountains and local countryside.

Quartier

As previously mentioned this is our holiday home bought 4 years ago which we use for our own main holidays and long weekends but also rent out through our own website. It is situated in a small typical rural Spanish village (approx 400 residents when busy) 30 minutes drive inland from Almeria International Airport. The village itself is beautifully located in the hills approximately 15 minutes drive from the nearest small desert town of Tabernas (more about Tabernas later) The house is centrally located within the village. We fell in love with the village the day we first saw the house. It is very quiet and perfect for relaxing and getting away from the heat of Andalucia and is only a 30-45 minute drive to the coast where you have a choice of the the busier Mojacar or Roquetas beaches or the quieter Cabo de Gata National park with it´s deserted beaches and warm seas.

In the village itself there are 2 bars that also serve as shops for all your groceries etc. The bars are good as well if you wish to sample the many Tapas that the area is famous for.They also serve local homemade dishes all from scratch using the local vegetables and products. There is also a bank and Phamacy but opening hours are variable dependant on if you are sick or not!!!

Walking to the bottom of the village avoiding the goats and occassional donkey you may come across, is a picnic area with wood barbecues that the locals use mainly during fiestas.
There is also the old wash house and water mill which are now disued but of interest and this makes for a nice stroll in the evening and to say "hola" to everyone you meet.
The people are very friendly although not much English is Spoken so bring a phrase book!!! There are a few other non Spanish in the village but don´t expect to come across them as we have only once or twice in 4 years!!
There is a swimming pool in the village that is open July and August and is about €1 a day to use and free if you promise not to swim!!!!

We are a family of 5 Andy is English and has been living and working in Madrid for the past 7 years for a large International Courier Company and will not be rushing back to live in the UK permanently any time soon.
Marta is of Spanish parents and was brought up in Canada and Santa Domingo amongst other places and works for the same Company although in a different division. We have two small children 2 and 4 and also an 18 year old to keep us all in check.
In our previous life (before the little ones) we both enjoyed travelling and holidays but needless to say this has been curtailed somwhat in recent times.
We bought our house in Almeria as we used to spend our Summer holidays there every year and love the area.

Destination

The exchange can be non -simultaneaus since this is our holiday home. The dates we can travel are less flexible but ask us.
