Small cottage (120 square metres) in seaside holiday village. Open-plan sitting/dining room area (also incorporating computer desk) with comfortable furniture and lots and lots of books. Kitchen compact, with gas cooker, electric oven, fridge. Compact but characterful bathroom with bath, basin, toiler and shower. Main bedroom looks out on unspoilt natural vegetation and contain double bed and wardrobe. There is an upstairs loft area with two single beds and a double bunk for the kids, and and outside door which leads to a sun deck with a wonderful view of the mountain to the north, and the lakes and sea to the south. The village itself has only basic shopping facilities, but there are shops with a moderate foods selecetion in the nearby village of Kleinmond, and any type of shop you can wish for in Hermanus or Strand/Somerset West (both 50 km away, Hermanus to the east and Strand to the west. Cape Town is a comfortable hour's drive away along the quite spectacular coastal road.

Quartier

The neighbourhood offers anything for the fresh air and outdoor enthusiast - swimming in the Indian Ocean waters from a white sand beach where it is possible to walk for half an hour without meeting another soul. There is a fresh-water lake nearby, and wonderful swimming in the Palmiet River about 10 minutes' drive away. There are mountain walks amongst unspoilt natural vegetation, and a lovely 3-hour (there and back) walk along the Palmiet River to a spectacular river swimming hole with its own white sandy beach. Cape Town offers all the amenities of a large and sophisticated city, and the whole of the Western Cape winelands are within an easy drive. Be aware, however, that Betty's Bay is a windy place, so it's for you if you like lots of very fresh air. There are wonderful calm, warm and sunny days as well, so do not let this put you off. The adventurous will not be disappointed.
