Maison

Nestled in the heart of Sedona's incredable red rock country, is our two bedroom town home. Our home is a split level with living room and kitchen on the main floor.

The living room has a couch (one could sleep on couch, but it is not a sofabed), televison with cable, surround sound and WIfi access. The width of the living room has a glass wall which opens to a patio with table and seating for four. A hedge seperates our patio from a large green area of grass and towering willow trees. This is one of our favorite features of our home, the green views, which are difficult to find in the desert. The dining area is just off the living room, beside which is a small fireplace.

A washer and dryer are in the kichen, as well as all appliences. This includes a dishwasher, garbage disposal, oven, 4 top stove, microwave and refridgerator. My husband is a chef, so we have many small appliances available as well.

There is a half bath on the main floor with toilet and sink.

Upstairs you will find a second bathroom with toilet, two sinks and bath/shower.

We have two bedrooms on the upper level. One has been made into an office with desk, chair and many books, and sleeping for two on a queen size bed. Large window out which is a lovely tree with purple blooms through the autumn and into the winter months.

The master bedroom with queen size bed and a sliding glass door that opens to an upstairs terrace, that takes in the view of the willow trees spoken of earlier. There are two outdoor chairs and a small table provided for sitting outdoors in the evening.

Our home has central air conditioning and heat.

We are located in West Sedona and close to the free public transportation that runs through the town of Sedona taking you to all of the shops and restaurants.

Across the street is a bar and resturaunt that often has bands and music on the weekends.

Quartier

Sedona is well known for its outdoor activities. Our favorite is hiking and we are lucky enough to live within walking distance of several hiking trails, and driving distance of less than a half hour for most.

Our favorite, West Fork, is one of the top ten hikes in the United States. This lovely hike cris-crosses Oak Creek, which has over time, eroded great curved indentions into the canyon. You really must see this in person to appreciate the beauty. The vermillion cliffs of red rock that are so prevalent in the area have a beauty that is difficult to put into words or capture on film. My pictures struggle to give justice to the unique beauty of Sedona.

If history and archeology are your interests, there is much here of the Native peoples that populated this area. The remains of the Sinagua indians can be found as close as a 20 minute drive at the Palatiki Ruins. You will also find their ancient language written on the rockface there. Less than an hours drive will bring to Montazuma's Well, Montazuma's Castle and the historic copper mining town of Jerome. Three hours from Sedona is the infamous Grand Canyon, on the way to which you can drive through Sunset Crater National Park, which used to be the home of active volcanos and Natives which have both left their mark on the landscape.

Las Vegas is half a day's drive from here and could be a nice diversion if you miss city lights, but we don't think you will. Sedona is a very spiritual, peaceful place and many travel here to escape the insanity of city life. There are many spas and Sedona is well-known for its vortices. Healing energy fields in the area connected with the earth.

Other pursuits are jeep tours, ballooning and mtn biking.

Oct/Nov are beautiful months in Sedona with temps in the mid to low seventies. Warm during the day and cool at night. Sunny with very little rain.

Sedona is a quiet town of 25,000 people. There are several grocery stores, a movie theater and many great restaurants

À propos de nous

My husband is Shawn and I am Crystal, and we have lived in Sedona for the past two years, along with our cat, Barnabus. We love the beauty of the area. Shawn is often teasing me about the number of photographs I take of the landscape when we can walk out the door and see this amazing beauty every day. But every day is different. If it is cloudy the sun casts shadows on the red rocks. If it is morning, if it sunset, if it is raining. The landscape is in constant change here.

Along with photography, and when not outdoors, I spend time in front of this keyboard working on my novel. I love all artistic pursuits and wish the time I spend as a front desk manager at a local resort could be better used artisticly. I like my job though. I love to meet new people and this is a perfect way to do that.

Shawn is the executive chef at a local resort and is very passionate about his cooking. I am fortunate to spend very little time in the kitchen.

My husband and I are both avid readers and enjoy good food, conversation and spending time together. We love to travel and have explored the beautiful British Isles and look forward to taking in the rest of the world.

As part of the exchange we would ask that you care for our cat while you stay in our home and we would be happy to care for any of your pets in your home. If you are allergic, or unable to do so, we can arrange to board our pet during your visit.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Destination

For our 2009 trip, our first pick is Rome, but we are open to most anywhere in Europe. We are particularly interested in locations with a lot of history. We like the outdoors and would love someplace we can spend a lot of time exploring the natural beauty of the destination we visit. We would like to visit in either January or June 2009.

We would also like to travel for long weekends in the US. Due to our location we would like to stick to the west coast or Mexico. Lake Tahoe, anywhere near Yellowstone Park, or someplace pretty south of the border.
