Maison

Our home is 380 square meters, half of it built in 1988, the rest added in 1999. The house is in a Contemporary Mediterranean style with white walls, several balconies and terraces, and tile or wood floors. There are two master bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, three minor bedrooms, another bathroom, and a half-bathroom (toilet) . The home is well equipped with 3 computers (all with DSL Internet Access), a wireless network, 3 High Definition Widescreen Televisions, an X-Box gaming system and stereo systems. There is central heating and air conditioning. We have solar panels on the roof that generate as much electricity as we use.

The house is on a bluff with beautiful views of a park, the neighboring farmer's vineyard and olive orchard, and our garden. The large living room and country kitchen overlook the garden and park. The garden includes a 14x34 foot swimming pool, 80 square meter lawn suitable for badminton, many oak trees, several orange trees, and a vegetable garden. The size of our lot is about 2000 square meters. The part of the park next to our house is primarily riparian oak forest so although we live in a suburban setting the impression from the back terrace and the back of the house is of being in the country.

Quartier

Modesto is located in the center of California. San Francisco and the Napa Valley are less than two hours away, Yosemite National Park and Monterey/Carmel (the beach) are about two and a half hours away. Other tourist spots such as wine growing regions, the historic gold mining region (The Mother Lode) , and the Sierra Nevada mountains are 45 minutes to two hours away.

Modesto is a pleasant tree shaded city of 200, 000. Our house is about 4km from the center of town which has over 50 restaurants, an 18 screen cinema, performing arts center, nightclubs, and other attractions. The nearest supermarket is about 2km. The park next to the house runs for several kilometers along the creek and includes undeveloped riparian forest, picnic areas, children's play areas, grassy fields, 8 km long recreational trail (running, walking, cycling) , free lighted tennis courts and an 18 hole golf course. We have a gate that provides direct access from our garden to the park.

Julia and I both speak French, I speak some Spanish. We love to travel and have had 12 successful home exchanges with families in Denmark, Netherlands, France, England, Sweden, and Wales.

Two of our children are at University and may or may not join us on an exchange.

We have a top of the line 2005 Honda Odyssey Touring van that can seat up to 7. We are non-smokers. We have 2 city, 2 mountain, 1 folding, and 2 road bicycles suitable for shorter adults and taller children. If you wish to meet our friends we would be happy to arrange introductions.
