Maison

Our house is a modern two story house in tropical North Queensland, Australia, about a 5 minute walk to the quiet beaches or the small cluster of shops. Emu Park has all the necessary services so you don't have to travel to Rockhampton--our nearest large town.
We have all modern conviences and share the cul de sac with three other retired couples. We live on the top floor of our 2 story house which is at street level so there are no steps to negotiate. Your visitors can stay downstairs and it is also self-contained. The gardens are beautiful and are automatically watered at night. We have fast broadband internet access and you can use Skype on our computer to phone the USA or Europe for less than 3 cents per minute.

Our house has a 150 degree panoramic view (no exaggeration) of Keppel Bay from our verandahs and we spend a lot of time relaxing on our squatters chairs watching the ever-changing sea views.

Our house is designed for comfort and is low maintenance. My wife is an excellent housekeeper and is renowned for her cooking ability.

Quartier

Emu Park is a small seaside town 44 kms from Rockhampton in Queensland Australia and lies on the Tropic of Capricorn. In the last four years Emu Park has been discoverd by tourists from the southern parts of Australia and has experienced a property boom. Accommodation during winter is impossible to get.

Standard clothing all year is shorts.T shirt,jandals (called thongs in Australia), hat and sunnies so leave your warm clothes at home as the average minimum temp is 17.6 and maximum of 25.7 -just the right temperture to experience the fantastic cruising grounds and excellent fishing spots. You can swim all year.

There are long stretches of sandy beaches and you often have them to yourself and the sea is usually a deep blue color.

I am a very keen fisherman and the neighbors are always willing to take you out in their boats. Contact me for some fishing photos. Fish crabs and prawns are always on the menu.

Emu Park has monthly markets. a museum, bowls and golf clubs, several coffee shops and restaurants and a nearby crocodile farm. Previous houseswappers to our house have made friends here and still return for visits

Have a look on www.emuparkonline.com.au for a look at our wonderful little town. We are a day's drive from the Gold and Sunshine Coasts and about 600kms from Cairns or you can drive west to Longreach to experience the Australian outback and visit the famous Stockman's Hall of Fame.

Our car is a 2007 Ford Station Wagon and seats 5 adults. It's great for travelling

Don is a College Headmaster at a Christian college but retires again in Jan 2010 and who still fits visits to overseas schools as a consultant in between fishing trips.

Frances was also a teacher and spends her time arranging functions for the local ladies and tending her beautiful garden. With another couple we conduct the popular fortnightly Community Cuppa in the local community centre-- a great place to meet the locals.

We have been married for 47 years and some of our family still live in the district. We are physically active and alert and in excellent health.

In 2003 we had three house swaps in the UK and several hospitality visits to our home, and now we want to visit the USA .

Destination

We are free to travel anytime after Easter 2010 and wish to spend time in the USA especially on the West Coast and on the East Coast.We would love to be in the North-east parts of the USA to see your glorious fall. This would co-incide with Spring in Australia.
