Maison

Our roomy home is situated in a quiet neighbourhood across from a park. The spacious living and formal dining rooms are separated by two classical columns that give an open concept appearance while retaining Victorian grace accented by lace window covers. The large eat-in kitchen easily accommodates eight adults. The gas stove, fridge, freezer, microwave oven invite gourmet meal preparation or if you wish, quick preparation on-the-go eating.
There is a two-piece bathroom beside the laundry room downstairs and a three piece bathroom upstairs. Four bedrooms off the central hall and a walk-out balcony completes the upstairs area. An office and well stocked library with computer and word processor are other features of our home as well as the several stained glass windows throughout. In the backyard,the patio/deck overlooks an expansive perennial garden which is surrounded by mature trees ensuring complete privacy for outdoor meals and warm evening lounging. The huge front lawn accommodates our family gatherings (more than 20 persons and growing) and games whenever we enjoy celebratory occasions.

Quartier

This picturesque village, a popular venue for movie makers and nature photographers is a step back in time. Summer music festivals, amateur theatre groups, indoor/outdoor cinema, canoeing and kayaking accessible within the village limits, swimming pool and river swimming as well as a conservation area for picnics and camping are in walking distance of our home. Small children's playgrounds and splash parks, walking trails and very friendly neighbours complete the picture. Also within walking distance are
the library, two banks, gourmet and family restaurants grocery stores, a medical centre, five churches, liquor/wine store, post office and the 100 ft. river gorge whose river bed is reachable by stairs. Fishing and golfing is nearby as is the horse racing and slots track. Elora is 30 min. from a grand regional farmers' market which we frequent weekly and which is in the midst of Mennonite country. The KW Symphony Orchestra, three universities, four golf courses, brown trout angling can be reached in half-an-hour. Two children's theme parks (Ontario Place, Storybook Gardens), Niagara Falls, Toronto and its museums, art galleries, professional sports are within 90 minutes. We are two hours from the longest fresh water beach in the world, the great lakes (and snorkling opportunities), the United States, boat tours, provincial parks, a genuine and interactrive Indian village, the fort of Ste. Marie Among The Hurons.....in other words you cannot be bored or idle here unless you so desire.

Linda and Bob are semi-retired parents to seven adult children and six beautiful grandchildren. We are experienced exchangers whose interests include writing, painting, walking, reading, music (especially Celtic) and well prepared meals with family, friends and a good bottle of wine. I was a school principal for more than a decade of my 30+ years as an educator and Linda holds a part-time job with a consulting firm. We are a family oriented couple who
are healthy and active and who have been blessed with children and grandchildren who enjoy visiting us and spending time at our home. As suggested above, our Irish roots (I was born in Co. Laoise) play an important role. There are professional musicians, dancers and singers among our children who have embraced these Celtic traditions. We hope to travel with two other like-minded adult friends and invite your party of up to eight to come here to be pleasantly surprised by our lovely home and surroundings.

Destination

The dates and duration are flexible as summer in Elora is a warm season with temps. in the 25-30C. range. We prefer The Republic of Ireland as a destination but may consider other exchanges. With our spacious home and flexible travel times the option of hosting visitors is available throughout the year as well.
For Europeans or Irish travellers, Canada may seem far away but those who have exchanged with us in the past love coming here. The UK exchangers who spent time at our home in 2007 have decided to stay here and seek citizenship! We wil provide more information, photos and visitor internet sites upon request.
