Maison

Our home is a large beautiful house right in the historic centre of Amersfoort. We have a unique location set back from the cobblestoned road with a lovely, private, walled in garden. Downstairs is a large living room/dining room with a separate kitchen. All these rooms have double french windows opening onto the garden. Upstairs we have four double bedrooms (one of which is also used as a study) and two bathrooms. Two of the bedrooms also have french windows that open onto a balcony. We have parking for two car and a separate garage.

Quartier

We live in the small medieval centre of Amersfoort surrounded by historic building, canals and churches. Step out of our front door and you can walk to restaurants, cafes, bars , art galleries, cinemas , museums, a weekly market and flower market. In the summer there are many festivals held in the large squares which are full of outdoor cafe life. Ten minutes walk is the train station. Amsterdam is 30 minutes, the Hague and Rotterdam 1 hour and Utrecht 15 minutes. From Rotterdam you can take the high speed train to Paris and you will be there in 31/2 hours. A bike ride from home you will find woods, large sand dunes and a lake with beaches and swimming. The Ijsselmeer with lots of watersport facilites is 20 minutes by car. Amersfoort is in the centre of the Netherlands so everywhere is easily accessible.

There are five of us. Jaap and Michele and our children Lauren aged 26,Thomas aged 19 and Bastiaan who is 16. Jaap is Dutch and work for an insurance company. I am English and have a catering company in Holland as well as a film catering company in the UK. Lauren lives in Utrecht and is doing phd research in her field of Conflict Studies .Thomas studies International business management in Amsterdam and Bastiaan is at high school.
Jaap is a very keen biker and we all play tennis and the boys love football and basketball
We have now made five home exchanges to Vancouver, Hawaii, the Hamptons , Colorado and Spain. They have all been fantastic.
