Traditional, quaint and cosy Cretan home renovated. Stone built. All mod cons. Own entrance and small yard. The roof of the house can be used as a yard, too, viewing the whole village. You can sit there with your drink and enjoy the tranquility on summer nights.
Electric heating an fireplace can be used in winter.

Quartier

Pefki (=Pines) is a quiet, picturusque, untouched village at 385 m from the sea level, on the Libyan Sea and Makry Gialos (=long beach), a popular family resort, with a wide choice of tavernas, bars, supermarkets and amenities. The village is situated among rocky mountains and a valley, but views the sea as well. There are two coffee shops (kafeneia) which also serve food and a tavern with traditional Cretan food of the best quality and logically priced. Live music on weekends. Nice folklore museum, central village church, three smaller churches around and a Venetian fountain. There is another village called Aghios Stephanos (=St Stephen) within walking distance (at 2 km) and a monastery (Kapsas) at 10 km from the village.The people are mainly old farmers, friendly, have no English, but you will manage as they are willing to help though and would always offer you fresh vegetables from their gardens and a/some glasses of raki, the typical alcoholic drink produced locally. There is also a number of people of different nationalities, who have bought properties and live at/ close to the village.The village offers a variety of nice walks around, inclduing a beautiful gorge crossing, taking you to Makry Gialos and two caves with stalactites. The nearest towns (Sitia in the North East and Ierapetra in the South West) are beautiful and offer a variety of cultural events during the summer (concerts, theatre, shows), arcaeological museums, folklore museums and all kinds of shops. In the broader area there are archaelogical sites of the Minoan (Zakros palaces), Roman and Venetian era, Monsteries, traditional villages and a wonderful palm forest (Vai). The place is very quiet and in spring there a huge variety of plants and flowers all around. Winter is very peaceful, as most farmers pick their olives. The area is surrouded by olive groves and some grapevines. Autumn is also ideal as you can swim till late October.

À propos de nous

I am a teacher of English as a foreign language in Athens, Greece currently reading for PhD at Trinity College Dublin. I did my Masters at TCD, too (2005-2007). I love the sea, nature in general, animals, swimming, reading, music, theatre and cinema. I have two adult sons.

Destination

Dates are flexible. It can be winter around Christmas time (before/during/after) or Spring. I would not say I could offer my place in July and August.
