Maison

We are offering a comfortable family home with three big double bedrooms, an open plan living area and kitchen that opens to a sunny north facing outdoor living area, and spectacular views of a river valley and sea to the south and mountains to the north. The house is set by itself with a two kilometre access road. Our cars, which will be available for you, are ideally suited to this rather rough road. Because of its seclusion it is totally secure without being surrounded by fences or guards. There is a washing machine and a dishwasher, satellite TV and high speed wireless internet access. There is a housekeeper who services the house 4 times a week.

Quartier

The house is situated 20 minutes drive from Knysna, which is the heart of the Garden Route and offers excellent restaurants and shopping and all the tourist facilities you might expect. It is less than twenty minutes from the best bathing beach on the Southern Cape coast line and miles of pristine beach in a coastal nature reserve. For hiking, apart from the beach the area is full of opportunities including walks in the nearby mountains covered in indigenous forest. It is a birder's paradise. Other nature oriented options on your doorstep are mountain biking and canoeing. If golf is your game there are five world class golf courses all within less than an hour and a quarter's drive. If you want to go further afield our SUV will take you to Cape Town in five hours.

I am a professional town planner, currently the Town Planning Manager for the Knysna Municipality after a 30 year career in universities and consulting. Joan, my wife is a poet with seven published volumes. Our daughter is busy doing her PhD at Boston College in Boston MA. Our son is completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Cape Town. We are particularly keen to swap into the Boston area to visit Frances there, and it is likely to be only Joan and me travelling.

Destination

Although we are open to other possibilities our preferred destination is Boston or New York.
