Maison

Our light-filled two-story townhouse of approximately 127 sq. m. has a full bathroom and two bedrooms upstairs, one with a queen-size bed that sleeps 2 people, and one with a single bed; a living room, dining area, W.C. with sink, kitchen, computer area and laundry closet with washer downstairs; TV, VCR , DVD, and internet; central gas heating and air conditioning; a wood stove fireplace; and small patio for outdoor eating and sitting. It is possible to use our self-inflating mattress and/or fold-out couch in the living room; each can sleep 2 people. We do not have a dishwasher or clothes dryer. (In sunny Sonoma, the later is not necessary.)

Our house is in a complex that consists of 24 units. Each house or unit has its own entrance to the outside and its own back patio yard. Our house is connected to one other house on the west side. Our plants are maintained by a drip system, so there is no yard maintenance required.

We also have two bikes that you could use on the city streets, bike paths and country roads.



Quartier

Sonoma is a beautiful northern California city, population 10,000, with a Mediterranean climate. People from all over the state, the country and the world come here to enjoy the historic Spanish plaza and adobe buildings, the relaxing atmosphere, and/or the famous Sonoma Valley wineries. Local farm produce, numerous wineries, rural scenery, wonderful biking and abundant hiking and birding are very close. The beaches at Point Reyes, the city of San Francisco and the University of California at Berkeley are a one-hour drive. We live in a quiet residentai neighborhood near a city bike path and within easy walking distance of shopping and restaurants. It is a 15-minute walk along the adjacent bike path to the historic Sonoma Plaza, music venues, art galleries, cafes and wine-tasting; a 10-minute walk in the opposite direction to our Mexican barrio, with Mexican shops, markets and restaurants.

À propos de nous

We are both community college teachers in our 60's, interested in cultural history, art, music, seashore and outdoor hiking. M. teaches American, California, women's and labor history; C. teaches social justice education. We have one adult daughter who is part of a coopertive printing business and lives in another town. We do not have pets, and we are non-smokers.

We like a mix of city and country life and especially enjoy music and hiking.

Destination

We are interested in an exchange for any 2-3 weeks up to a month between June 1 and mid-August 2011 or 2012. Our house might also be available the last week of December and/or first week of January.

Our preferences for 2011 are Stockholm or Scotland, but we will also consider Montreal, Quebec City, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Oslo, Trondheim, Helsinki, and New York City. Tempt us! If 2011 is not possible for you and us, maybe 2012 will work.
