Welcome to the home of Julie and Ralph in Masset on the beautiful Queen Charlotte islands on the pacific coast of northern british columbia!

Our home is an older (for north american standards) four bed-room house with a cosy open concept kitchen and living room w. wood stove and cable tv on the down stairs floor. The upstairs has a bath room, three bedrooms, an office with computer access, and a bathroom. There is wireless internet throughout the house.

Though the house is in town (Masset) is situated in a very quiet neighborhood and with easy access to trails and beach.

We are willing to offer up the use of our Toyota Echo while you stay in our home.

Our house is situated in the small fishing town of Masset on the north coast of Haida Gwaii (alias Queen Charlotte Islands), ancestral home to the Haida First Nations people. The islands are known for its pristine wilderness, its ancient Haida Culture (known for their art, totem poles and big canoes), old growth temperate rain forest, and some of the the most stunning wilderness kayaking in the world with access to remote abandoned Haida village in the National Park of Gwaii Haanaas. Haida Gwaii is the same latitude as Denmark and enjoys very similar climate and temperatures, though a quick storm coming in from the Pacific is not uncommon in May.

Haida Gwaii is home to many artists, writers, and people choosing to live closer to the land, and of course to the Haida, indigenous to the islands for the past 15.000 years. The islands feature fishing, kayaking, hiking, camping or simply just the opportunity for peace and quite and easy walks, as well as cultural experiences - all within between a five minutes walk to two hour drive. May is a good month for whale watching as the Grey whales and sometimes Killer Whales come from the south to feed. There is a surf school in town for the adventurous souls.

We have been a family of four living in the house up until recently, but are now "empty nesters" with Ralph's grown-up children in school in the Vancouver area. Ralph is born and raised on Haida Gwaii and of Haida ancestry. He is an artist and a BC Park Ranger in the provincial parks and protected areas of Haida Gwaii. Julie is born and raised in Denmark and have been on Haida Gwaii for six years, where she works as a self employed Community Economic Develop consultant on the islands.

We both love and appreciate the natural beauty of Haida Gwaii very much, and enjoy the access to hiking and camping. Ralph is a traditional food gathered and plant medicine practitioner in his spare time, and when not working, we are often busy collecting, gathering, and processing food (smoking, canning) off the land and ocean, such as seafood, fish, game, berries, as well as local medicine plants of the pacific northwest.

This year we would very much like to visit Denmark for a few weeks but also enjoy the independence of staying in our own "space" rather than with family and friends, and hope to find comfortable space, preferably with access to a car, and within a 45 min. drive from Copenhagen.
