Maison

3000 sq. ft. 5-year old home, located on the west side of Okanagan Lake in British Columbia, 40 km from the city of Vernon, population approx. 40,000 and 45 km from Kelowna, population approx. 130,000. The house has all amenities including laundry facilities, modern kitchen, 1 king-size bed, 1 queen-size bed and 2 twin-size beds, sauna, propane barbecue, internet access and DVD player. Enjoy meals on the spacious deck overlooking the lake and mountains. Fresh, local produce can be purchased from biweekly farmers' markets.

Quartier

Our quiet development has a good mix of young and old and provides plenty of opportunity for walks in the forest on the many trails that start just steps from the house. Our neighbors are very warm and helpful. The area is hilly and scenic. Beaches are 2km, 5km, and 10km from the house. For the sportier types, water sports, hiking, and cycling are nearby. Three touring bicycles, two canoes and one kayak including life jackets and paddles will be provided. For your convenience the vehicle is equipped with a roof rack to carry a canoe or kayak and a bicycle rack to carry up to three bicycles. Silver Star Mountain Ski Resort is about 1 hour's drive away where summer hikes and mountain biking can be experienced.

The Okanagan valley has offers a vast array of activities like wine tour and tasting, boating, sun bathing, hiking in the mountains, golfing, fishing and camping to name a few. The world recognized Myra Canyon bike trail is not to be missed.

Andy and Daphne are a retired couple, having had careers as a scientific research/electronic technologist for the Government of Canada and a newspaper graphic artist. We have lived in several locations in Canada, including the "Great White North". Just prior to moving to Vernon, we lived in Vienna, Austria for five years, employed with a division of the United Nations. We have one adult daughter who is presently on a world tour and will be joining us for part of our stay. She is employed by the government and is a law school graduate. We have all traveled extensively and are very adaptable to a variety of cultures. Languages spoken by at least one member of our family include fluent English, fluent French and basic German.

Destination

We are looking for an area that will allow us to take bike trips on our own so we would prefer not to look after animal. Access to bicycles would be good. Our vacation dates are flexible within a few days at each end. We are looking for exchange in south or west Ireland for July 2010
