Maison

We have a modern, convenient house in one of the nicest parts of London, very close to Kensington Gardens and Palace and 5 mins walk to underground trains to reach Picadilly Circus, Oxford Street , Trafalgar Square and other parts of the West End in 15-20 mins. The house has an off street parking space ( no parking tickets!) and is built on 4 floors. On the ground floor is an entrance hall and toilet, a utility room with washing machine and dryer, and a back bedroom onto the garden. The first floor has a large living/dining room with small kitchen (electric cooker, fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher etc). The kitchen leads onto a wooden verandah with plants in pots and chairs overlooking a small paved patio garden below.
On the second floor there are two bedrooms; both have double beds and built in wardrobes. One has an ensuite bathroom, the other has a separate bathroom next to the bedroom. Both have showers over the bath with strong water pressure. On the top floor there is a small baby/toddler bedroom/office.
There is wifi internet throughout the house, ceiling spotlights in most rooms, flat screen TV and DVD/video recorder

Quartier

If you want to see the sights in London, Kensington is one of the nicest parts to be in! The 'Royal Borough' was the home of Princess Diana and Kensington Gardens has her memorial fountain in it. You can walk across the park to Notting Hill Gate with famous Portobello Road market and all the trendy shops and cafes. Kensington also has all the beautiful garden squares as seen in the film 'Notting Hill'

You can walk to the well known museums 'Victoria and Albert, National History and Science museums in South Kensington in about 20 minutes, and another 10 minutes will take you to Harrods for some shopping. Or, just jump on the underground and be there in 10 minutes. Its a very short ride on the underground to the sights of the West End and City and you can also easily pick up one of the sightseeing tour buses in South Kensington

It is a trendy and upmarket area, but, at the same time, very safe and friendly for young families and the house is just 5 minutes walk from a beautiful park (Holland Park) where there are playgrounds, sports fields and wooded areas as well as the 18th century Holland House which hosts open air concerts in the Summer.

Earls Court Road is round the corner with many bars cafes and restaurants serving food from all over the World, as well as small shops and pharmacies and there's a 24 hour supermarket less than 5 mins walk from the house

À propos de nous

The house belongs to my Mother, who has lived here for 12 years and in Kensington for over 50 years! She is retired but used to be a social worker and is still involved with many charities in the area. I am her daughter and I live with my partner and baby in a beautiful part of the country just 30 miles from London. I am an exercise teacher and I come to work in London 3 days a week. We often come to stay with my Mother for a few days and she with us. We like to take advantage of the theatre, music, arts and museums in London and ths is a great base from which to do that. We are English by birth but my Father was Austrian and we have many relatives and friends from abroad and really like travelling to see them and also to visit new places.

Destination

We would ideally like to do an exchange somewhere warm in the winter. We would be open to all destinations if they are interesting and would give us nice opportunities for sightseeing. We would be one couple, my Mother, and child (3 years) so would be great to find a place with 3 + bedrooms, any small child equipment would be a big bonus!

We are interested in destinations closer to home from Spring 2011 onwards, perhaps Europe or North America. We also love long weekends away in other parts of the UK so would welcome exchange offers from there.

We are open to the possibility of a non simultaneous exchange as well (though prefer simultaneous), as we have another house in the country (Marlow, Buckinghamshire) and would be happy to introduce visitors to that area if they came over while we were in the UK
