Maison

Our apartment is the downstairs of a restored heritage home, with central heating and a Fisher wood stove to keep you comfortable and cosy in winter. Located in a quiet neighbourhood, it is however centrally located, with Dallas Road and the ocean at the foot of the street, shops, museums, galleries, the renowned Empress Hotel & many fine restaurants within walking distance. The local bus service stops just across the road for trips anywhere within this region. Gorgeous oak floors, decorative paintings and other art work on display, and the modern, open plan kitchen/dining area, make this a great place for entertaining, or for quiet suppers at home. In addition to the main lounge area, there is a pleasant sunroom at the back overlooking our private garden. The apartment includes a king sized bed, extensive book collection, TV, stereo, with a washer/dryer located in the second bathroom, every convenience, & wireless high speed internet throughout the house. The front room, overlooking the street, is our office area, which houses a PC computer that is available for guest use. Our cat, Vader (6 years) is a quiet and amiable fixture who is not allowed in the bedroom - but he does need to be fed once per day, and enjoys some time outside each day.
You will love the experience of visiting Victoria - our visitors have always wanted to return, and some threaten to move here!

Quartier

Our street is a very short street, only 17 houses and a small park, that runs down to the ocean. The view from there is across to the mountains of the Olympic Peninsula (USA) and Port Angeles - there is a daily ferry across, as well as the 'Clipper', the fast ferry to Seattle, which leaves from the dock downtown daily. The walk along the ocean path is charming - watching the ships and sailboats go by, hang gliders in the right wind conditions, and about 20 minutes west takes you to the cruise ship dock, which is always interesting! Many of the gardens in the neighbourhood are stunning - "city of gardens" is one name for Victoria! The public transportation system provides buses which run frequently throughout the day down our street and the street at the corner. A small plaza with grocery store, pharmacy, pub & other businesses is nearby. Neighbours on our street are friendly and helpful, and we all know each other and look out for each other whenever needed. We have several get-togethers each year, including a street BarBQ in September, Christmas party, and spring tea, where we can catch up on each other's news.

À propos de nous

Susan, 60, is a retired music teacher who is enjoying her first year of retirement. David, also 60, wants to continue to work for a few more years - he runs his own civil survey business. Both of us are fit folks who maintain regular workouts at the YMCA and love our ocean walks. In addition to the many projects around renovating this 105 year old house, (David is a great carpenter/designer; Susan is the encourager!!), we love to read, enjoy live music performances & the theatre, summer camping, winter skiing at Mount Washington on the island, and travel at any time of year! Our daughter is currently living in Melbourne Australia, so we have great motivation to travel there!

Destination

We are really hoping to get to Melbourne for December, so that we can celebrate this Chrsitmas with our daughter :-)
You would really enjoy a "Victorian Christmas" here in this wonderful town!
