Maison

We have included photos inside our house, as well as outside.

We live in a newly decorated house in the South-West wine region of France in a village voted one of the 100 most beautiful villages in France. 45 minutes drive from Bordeaux or the Dordogne, as well as St Emilion, our car is available to visit these regions - if you want to leave the village itself! We are also a 15-minute drive from Marmande, the nearest large town.

The house is over 100 years old, 235m2, with a 49m2 terrace which faces the sun from morning till evening - Olivia and I would strongly advise eating your meals on the terrace; especially breakfast where, depending on the time of year, you can watch the beautiful sunrise. In the back is a 161m2 garden.

The house has double-glazed windows and is very well insulated. When it's very hot outside, it's refreshingly cool inside. When it's cold outside, we have an excellent heating system which keeps the house warm inside.

Beautiful and peaceful surroundings with spectacular views, our house sits near a cliff edge with steps running down to a beautiful canal which runs parallel to the Garonne River.

The house includes 3 large bedrooms, a fully-equipped kitchen, large lounge/dining room, shower, 2 toilets, a terrace and a garage.

We also have a washing machine, dishwasher, high-speed internet access, two 50inch flat screen TVs with English and French channels (including all Sky channels).

We can accommodate up to 5 people. We have a Peugeot 205 for you to drive. And 2 bicycles... to go riding along the canal is a wonderful treat, no matter what the weather!

My wife and l are both non-smokers and like to keep our home clean and tidy, and we would do the same at your home.

We are happy to swap for a house or an appartment and are open to destinations anywhere in the world.

Quartier

We have included photos of the swimming pool (adult and kid pool), the tertre and the village in general.

With 1,462 inhabitants, we feel Meilhan sur Garonne is one of the most beautiful villages in France. Just 40 metres around the corner from our house is a large 'tertre' with trees and flowerbeds, and with a spectacular panoramic view over the Garonne River and several kilometres beyond.

A culinary experience can be had on the ‘Restaurant au Tertre’. You may eat on its terrace outside or inside its softly decorated hall with paintings from one of the local inhabitants adorning the walls. The seafood platter (served all year round) is, for us, the tastiest of many tasty dishes. The one drawback is how much time you sometimes have to wait for your food! Patience is worthwhile as the food itself is delicious!

From the tertre, you can walk down a path of stone steps leading to the canal below with trees running along both sides. Plenty of people go swimming, rowing, walking, running, riding their bikes, etc, alongside the canal's beautiful waters. An English café and a French bar sit between the canal and the river.

The village also includes 2 other French restaurants, post office, theatre hall, library, bank, supermarket, newsagent, doctors, butcher, bread shop, chemist. And an outdoor swimming pool.

The nearby Dordogne is absolutely worth a visit, especially if you are interested in pre-historic landmarks - it is blessed with the oldest examples of human life in the world. These incredible sites apart, it is one of the most beautiful regions of France

Bordeaux is also a stunning city - it has competed to become the European City of Culture, thus adding to its beauty with a wonderful variety of activities taking place along its riverside. The city centre is also remarkable, with 350 classified historic sites and an array of theatres & restaurants that defies belief – contact the tourist office for further details: www.bordeaux-tourism.com.

À propos de nous

Due to lack of space in the neighbourhood section, we would like to add that we are part of the original wine centre of the world, where nearby you have the opportunity to visit a huge selection of vineyards. The village that is a must for wine connoisseurs is St Emilion - not only is the wine exemplary (try the St Emilion 2000!), but the beauty of the village cannot be understated. We believe this is THE most beautiful village in France.

My wife, Olivia, is French and I am English, sufficeth to say she is the elegant, classy and intelligent one of our relationship!

Olivia has been a primary school teacher for 14 years. Her hobbies include modern art painting (some of which decorate the walls of our house), cooking, watching home decoration and cooking TV programmes, going to museums, reading (with a particular penchant for intricate detective stories) and ensuring the house remains as clean and tidy as possible.

She is down to earth, has a passion derived from the Spanish half of her family - her mother's side - is very cultured and has a joie de vivre that is infectious.

I used to be an actor/writer, but am now working for a financial training company in the financial services sector.

My hobbies include watching sport (in particular, football, rugby, golf, tennis), reading, jogging, writing and watching DVD’s in bed with my beloved!

Together we enjoy going to the cinema, discovering quality restaurants, taking walks along the canal, visiting the seaside, eating on our terrace, particularly breakfast when we catch the sunrise, and going on holiday.

Regarding home exchanges, we are very open to destinations around the world. We also have a healthy respect for others’ homes, our own philosophy being to leave others’ homes as we found them on entering. And we would of course expect our home to be treated in the same way.

Destination

We are open to ideas as to where in the world we would like to travel. And we are also open to exchanging homes that are either smaller or larger than our own.
