Maison

Our country home is two stories, with tile, mahogany and wrought iron throughout. The second floor has a wrap around balcony with beautiful views of the mountains, sunsets, and the Caribbean Sea. Outdoors is a private botanical garden with hiking trails and tropical flowers for cutting and a large assortment of tropical fruits for eating in season (banana, avocado, pineapple, rambutan and much more!). Springs and a river provide secluded picnic areas. Peaceful forested surroundings and year round comfortable temperature (no heating or air conditioning needed!). Washer and dryer, high speed internet, DVD player (DVD and video rental in town for $2 each), stereo.

Quartier

Maricao is a small mountain village in the heart of the coffee growing mountains in the western region of Puerto Rico. People are very nice and the surroundings are peaceful and beautiful. Great place for nature lovers, photographers, hikers, and bird watchers. Only an hour away from great beaches with snorkling, boating, fishing, surfing, and great seafood restaurants. Close to beaches and tourist attractions, but without the heat, crowds and mosquitos of the coast. Nice temperatures year round, never too hot or too cold. Other attractions include the Camuy Caves and the Arecibo Radiotelescope Observatory. One hour from scenic Ponce and three hours from San Juan. Our 70 acre farm and botanical garden borders the 5000 acre Maricao State Forest, with extensive trails for hiking and excellent birdwatching.

We are a couple in our forties. Yarisa is a lawyer and I (Bryan) am a horticultural researcher, both at the University of Puerto Rico. Our two boys are teenagers, and like everything electronic! We enjoy nature and love to travel and experience other cultures, languages and foods.
