Maison

Summer country house in Tuscany. Three bedrooms (sleeps 8), kitchen with fireplace, living room, antique furniture; ample and well-equipped garden. Available from June to September (available also in May and October, but it might be cold). The property is between the provinces of Livorno and Pisa, located close (less than 10 miles) to the shore (sand beaches or rocks: Vada and Castiglioncello are the most famous spots, but there are others). A convenient starting point for daily trips to major art cities: Florence, Pisa, Lucca, Siena. Pisa and Lucca are 45 minute drive away, Florence a little more than one hour, Siena about two hours. There are four very nice medieval villages fifteen/twenty minutes away (good wine, very good cuisine): Montescudaio, Guardistallo, Casale, Bolgheri. You can easily reach train stations in 10 minute drive to travel within Italy also by train, but car is needed. We can combine the offer also a few days in Florence in a central apartment with 2 rooms (1 double bed in each).

Quartier

Very quiet country setting within a family property of 3 houses, one of which is empty, the other seasonally rented. You can walk to a small supermarket, but you need a car to reach towns, beaches, stations. Ideal to rest, enjoy the piece of the Tuscan countryside and the Italian coast.

À propos de nous

We are a family of 4: 3 adults and 1 baby. My husband Simone Marchesi and I (Ilaria Marchesi) are university professors in the United States (Princeton and Hofstra University, respectively) and we have a 2 year old daughter, named Virginia. We like to travel with my brother, Ugo Cortesi, who is a research scientist at the Italian National Research Council. He owns the apartment in Florence which could be added to the exchange, if you want to leave the country house and spend a few days in the city. We are all Italians, but we speak fluent English and we know some German and Spanish. Our families of origin reside in Tuscany and we spend the whole summer in the area (we are therefore available to introduce you to the house and surroundings). We look for exchange for a inter vacation in January, between the Fall and the Spring semester.

Destination

We need a non simultaneous exchange, since we can offer only a summer house, with no heating, while we want to go to a seaside place in January. Our dates are flexible only within January and we'd like to stay close to the beach. We are looking for a swimming/tanning/resting vacation to warm up in the middle of the winter. We are open to trade for a 2 to 1 exchange time: even if we stay in your place only for 10 days, you can stay 20 days in ours.
