Maison

This is our family vacation home, located on 40 acres of field, and woods in Central Arkansas, in the Ozarks (actually called the Boston Mountains), and close to the Ozark National Forest (3million acres of woods).

The beautiful home has 3 porches...one in the front for viewing the mountains to the east of us; one in the back (with a screen porch and deck) for viewing the 20 acress of woods (and deer) to the West of us (and a beautiful light show if it's storming); and a small one on the north side, to enter the mud/laundry room when coming in from outside.

This home was built in 2003, and has a master bedroom suite, with a walkin closet, and a master bath with a shower, and garden whirlpool tub. You have your own private vanity, plus a regular two sink counter. The two extra bedrooms are guest bedrooms, and have a guest bath with a tub/shower located in between them.

The most beautiful things about the home are the gorgeous views of mountains in all four directions. There are old trees, and gardens surrounding all sides....including a gazebo to mark the entrance to the meadow behind you. Many varieties of birds are visible from your back and front porches, including finches, blackcap chickadees, bobwhite quail, scissor tail swallows, cardinals; and eagles, and turkey vultures who love to glide on the updrafts.

We are located near the floating river called the Illinois Bayou, and the rafting river called the Buffalo. Very near to Hwy 7, the scenic highway that runs down through the Ozarks, and it's mini "grand canyon".

Quartier

We are just outside of the town of Hector, that is only about one block long. We do however have all your needs met, in the way of grocery shopping, convenience gas/store, library, bank, pharmacy, and clinic. This is a quaint town in the mountains of the Ozarks, and where my family settled in the 1800's when they came from Georgia and Tennessee to Arkansas.

We are about 20 minutes from a much larger town, called Russellville, that has shopping, restaurants, and many other opportunities; including Arkansas Tech, and access to Arkansas One, the damn that provides energy to the surrounding area. We are about an hour and 15 mintues from Little Rock, AR, the location of the new Clinton Library, and the airport.

À propos de nous

This land was purchased by my ggrandfather in the 1800's; when he moved from Georgia, to Arkansas, with his family. This site has stayed in my family for 5 generations. I put this home on it several years ago, after my mother passed; and left it to myself, and my brother. Subsequently, I bought my brother out, and now it belongs to myself, and my family.

Currently I spend the late Fall, Winter, and early Spring here. The growing seaon here is about February (early daffodils) through December. We even have some pansies and kale that grow across the Winter (January through mid February). It's very hot in July, through mid September, and then is mild across the Fall, Winter, and early Spring (100's in the summer, 70's in the Fall, and 20-30's in the Winter).

My husband and I are 62, and retired. We have 5 children between the two of us (blended families); and 9 grandchildren, ranging in age from 21, 19, 17, 15, 12, 10 (2), 2.5, and 2 months. I would guess we might see ggrandchildren soon. We believe that it takes a "village"; so often do things with the grandchildren..

My husband is a hunter, and naturalist, so he has taught all the boys (5) how to hunt, when they've come of age. All the children have been taught to enjoy, and have respect for the natural world. Our oldest are girls, and they are out of their homes, and on to school and work. The two youngest are girls....thank heavens...and I will enjoy the frilly dresses, etc., all over again with them.

I have a great interest in the natural world, indigenous peoples, and ancient sites. I speak French, and Spanish; but it's been a long time since I've had ocassion to use them. Back in the 80's I traveled to Egypt, Greece, and the Isle of Crete; traveling through Copenhagen on our way; with an Art History tour. My daughter, Chloe has traveled to London. She has an interest in Greece, and Italy, and I would like to visit Hawaii, as my father was there in WWII; and I was almost born there.
