Downtown Albuquerque Home with Detached Guest House -- Balloon Fiesta is in October!

Amérique du Nord / États-Unis / Nouveau-Mexique / Albuquerque

Maison

Our house was built in 1941 and is a short walk from downtown Albuquerque. We bought it in May of 2007 and have been working to improve it since. The work is slow going, but we think it is better than when we moved in.

The main house has is dominated by an L-shaped kitchen, dining room, and living room. We love the open feeling that these three connected rooms give the house. It is a really great setup for hosting parties or just hanging out as a family. The dining room has a table that will seat six people and a small table to small children. The kitchen has two-year-old appliances and a full-size washer and dryer.

The house has two original smaller bedrooms and one large master bedroom that we believe was added on in the 1980s. One of the smaller bedrooms is used by our two-year-old a currently has a toddler-sized bed in it. We have an inflatable mattress that can be used for adult-sized people. The other smaller bedroom is being used as an office, but has floor space for an inflatable mattress. The master bedroom contains a queen-sized bed and has big window that open up to our backyard. The main house also has a bathroom with a tub and shower. There is hard wood flooring and tile throughout.

Our guest house has two small rooms and a bathroom. One of the rooms has a futon that will sleep two adults comfortably. The other room is used for storage, but room can easily be made for sleeping if you need it.

We have a large backyard with two covered patio sections, a nice patch of grass for lounging, and a large hammock. We have a veggie garden, which home exchangers are welcome to eat out of. We have two fig trees that produce in late spring and early fall. We also have a hot tub and are working towards getting it set up. We hope to finish that project during the summer of 2009.

For any other specific questions about the house, please contact us.

Quartier

Our home is located just east of downtown Albuquerque in the Reynolds Addition neighborhood. The houses on our block were built in the early 1940s and have all had additions and changes made to them over the last 70 years. So while they were all once the same model, they have all morphed into different houses over the years. We have a fairly close-knit community with an active neighborhood association.

Our neighborhood is currently transitioning from an older, run-down part of town into one of the most vibrant and desirable places to live in the city. We have lots of young professional families in the neighborhood who would be happy to talk to out-of-town visitors about local activities and great restaurants. Due to Albuquerque's growing film industry, our part of town is frequently used for TV and movie shoots.

We are within walking distance of downtown, Old Town, the Rio Grande Zoo, several parks, Tingley Beach, and seasonal public pool. The Rio Grande bosque is a beautiful, quiet place to walk year-round and there are many excellent biking trails that follow it north and south from our house. Many hiking trails can be found in the Sandia Mountains on the eastern edge of town and the tram ride to the top of the mountain is not to be missed.

We are about an hour drive to Santa Fe, which celebrates it's 400th anniversary as a city in 2010. It houses the state capital and is a world-renowned artist community. Taos is about three hours away. The town is definitely worth an overnight trip.

À propos de nous

Destination

We are looking to stay in NYC during the second week of October. My sister is getting married on Long Island and we would like to make a little trip out of it rather than just jetting out for the weekend. The wedding is on October 9 and we would like to stay for four to seven days around that date.

We would prefer to stay in Queens, but Brooklyn and Manhattan would also work.

This weekend coincides with the closing weekend of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiest, our biggest event of the year. It is quite a spectacle and something everyone should experience at least once. http://www.balloonfiesta.com
