Maison

We love this holiday home and always feel at home on entering - open plan living room/kitchen, large windows overlooking sea, cliff walk to the right and village 10 minutes to the left or go right and get there by the cliff walk. We are two minutes walk from the beach. Our neighbours are helpful, friendly and enjoy tourists. We have washing machine, electric shower, central heating, and an open fire which creates a lovely atmosphere if you are forced to remain indoors because of inclement weather. Our children are in their 20's and love the area and have great memories of our family holidays. We took a new dog down one time and we forgot she wouldn't be aware of her surroundings and we went for a walk after dark and she fell down a cliff but all was well and she lived to tell the tale to her pups.

Quartier

Allihies is in the Beara Peninsula in West Cork which is a delightful setting. It has everything to offer the discerning tourist - lovely walks, hills to climb, a swim in the fresh blue waters of ballydonegan beach, local restaurant which is in the local pub, one well stocked supermarket and 1 hours drive from County Kerry over a coast road via Eyeries to Kenmare. Castletownbere is a small fishing port and is the nearest town to Allihies. Allihies is about 95 miles from Cork Airport. We have heard the cuckoo there in May and June and the cuckoo resides up in the hills in a disused copper mine for which the area is famous. The sand on the beach is sharp and does not stick to the feet beacuse it came down from the mines in previous times.

À propos de nous

We as a family love the outdoors - we have three grown children who cycle, walk, swim and play hurling and football. We ourselves love the various walks around the village and one can go on a walk for the whole day but be prepared to eat the table on your return.
John is a principal teacher in a primary school in Blarney and I have retired from working in the Bank of Ireland in Cork. Our daughter is qualified and working as an Occupational Therapist in a Cork hospital, is married with one daughter and our two sons are still in College - one having got a Law Degree and furthering his education doing a Masters in Town Planning and the other doing Final Law and assessing his options for the future.

Destination

The dates are not flexible as the flights to Milan Bergamo have been booked for 30th July for 2 of us and on 2nd August we are being joined by one more adult friend who is also a priest. The exchange can most certainly be non-simultaneous and we would welcome anywhere within driving distance of Bergamo and we anticipate staying in Northern Italy for the duration.
