Maison

Our one-year-old 1500-sq-ft home is on a quiet dead-end road in the very small town of Walloon Lake, very close to the lake itself complete with a public access boat launch and small beach. The open kitchen, dining room, and living room area features nice appliances, and a video projector with satellite TV. Two ensuite bedrooms with attached bathrooms, one in the opposite end of the house, are perfectly suited for two couples, or extended family. The "spiderman" and "princess" bedrooms each contain large bunkbeds to accommade up to three kids each. A wide variety of kids' toys, movies, motorized vehicles and swings literally fill the unfinished walkout basement as well.

Northern Michigan is a wonderful place to raise a family, but may be an even better place to visit! (We do miss our native Chicago occasionally, and still enjoy visiting several times a year.) If your family is looking to get away together, and slow down while still having loads of fun, you'll love Walloon Lake!

Quartier

Many residents are part-year, who come up north for the unspoiled surroundings of beautiful views of lakes, hills and forests. These provide watersports, fishing and other outdoor activities during truly beautiful summers. Winters, with lots of snow, are also beautiful, but get long when the snow continues to fall in March. And April. This provides quality wintersports all winter long. Several weeks in Autumn, called "color season", also provide unmatched beauty everywhere you look.

We love the laid-back pace of the area, and enjoy a variety of unique restaurants, coffee shops other local attractions. My wife also loves to visit the spa at Boyne Mountain Resort, just 10 minutes away. In winter, we enjoy Boyne Mountain, Boyne Highlights and Nub's Nob skiing facilities, Petoskey's Winter Sports Park, and playing in the snow in our own yard. Snowmobilers come up north from hours away for the endless snowmobile trails surrounding the area. Ice fishing, snowshoeing and cross country skiing are all very popular winter activities as well. Though we don't hunt, November 15th is considered a national holiday up here.

Our two small children have plenty to do in the area, including a park and beach within short walking distance, but they love to ride and tube behind our older boat. They also love bike riding, either in the neighborhood, or on one of many lakeside bike paths, or visiting one of the area's many public parks and beaches.

Traverse City makes for a nice day trip with an hour drive to the south, and Mackinaw City, with the famous Mackinaw Bridge to the UP, and the ferries to Mackinac Island, make for a nice day trip with a 45 minute drive north.

We love to travel, but need to do so on a modest budget. We've been blessed to visit Hawaii, the Caribbean, Italy, Mexico, (and of course, Disney!), and are always looking for ways to see other parts of the world. We are always sharing our house with others from church, friends or family, and thought an exchange may allow us to offer hospitality AND travel on a budget at the same time!

We usually travel as a family to share fun experiences together, but my wife and I also often leave the kids with their wonderful grandparents to get away for a while too!

We are a thirty-something couple, married for 10 years now, and loving every day of it. Our 7-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son are busy, flexible, (and funny!), and continually bring us joy with their ability to share care for others, offer kindness, and display respect. We thoroughly enjoy sharing the world and its many various experiences with them. We also regularly travel with extended family, since we live so far away from both sets of grandparents.

Destination

Since we are often away from home for up to a week at a time, a non-simultaneous exchange may be possible. A simultaneous swap would make it easier to provide a mini-van and/or older Jeep Wrangler (perhaps even at the airport!), but may be more difficult for us to schedule. Swaps of more than a few days would have to be planned well in advance to to work responsibilities. We're willing to consider any location, but are limited in available vacation time during 2009. Willing to plan WAY in advance!
