Maison

Maypole Cottage is a grade II listed building built from local Yorkshire stone and sits in over an acre of walled garden and croft. The lounge with large open fire and dining/kitchen are upstairs and benefit from the fine views over the hamlet and surrounding countryside. Downstairs there are two double bedrooms, one with two single beds and their is a bathroom with bath and separate shower. The property is has its own fresh water supply and is centrally heated.
There is a patio area to the side of the property which overlooks the croft which may have sheep and lambs in spring. The walled garden is large and suitable for playing most sports and picknicing on hot summer days.

Quartier

The house is our second home in the Dales and is extremely peaceful and restful. The hamlet has a very interesting history as during the Jacobean Rebellion the local farmers hid in the hamlet of Thorpe (in the Hollow) from the invading Scots and remained totally unnoticed until after they had had returned to Scotland.
The hamlet is only a short walk to the villages of Linton, Burnsall (on the egde of the Duke of Devonshire's Yorkshire Estate - the other being Chatsworth) and Grassington where you will find fine restaurants, public houses, a post office, doctors and shops. The hamlet is also ony a short walk from the XI Century Norman Church at Linton Falls on the River Wharfe.
The area is renouwned for its scenery and hospitality and all manor of country pursuits can be arranged; such as fishing, canoeing, sailing, shooting, cycling, walking, fell running, painting, quad bking, 4 wheel driving, etc..
Use of a car is recommended if you want visit the local market town of Skipton or travel further afield to the cities of Leeds or Manchester. A local bus operates on an hourly basis to Ilkley and Skipton where a train service can be boarded if preferred.

Carolyn and I have one daughter aged nine. Carolyn can speak French and German and we like to walk with our dog through the Dales and I like watercolour painting. we also have a larger house set in the Dales about 1.5 miles away - See ref 22433.
