Maison

This two storey house was built as a labourer's cottage in the quiet west Wicklow village of Ballyconnell . It was built from locally sourced granite in1900 .About 10 years ago it was totally renovated and extended with modern insulation,double glazing,oil fired central heating and a modern kitchen with dishwasher,fridge and microwave. The washing machine and dryer are in a new shed .The house is set on a one acre plot which is partly landscaped. The house has three bedrooms one double,one twin and one single together with a bathroom with an electric shower but no bath.Downstairs there two rooms a living room with a fireplace,television with DVD player and about 50 DVDs .The other downstairs room is a large bright modern kitchen with a lobby off it and a WC .Off this kitchen also there are double glazed doors to the garden.In the garden at the rear of the house there is the former pigsty also built with granite .It now houses the oil boiler and the water treatment plant.

Quartier

The house is in a quiet west Wicklow village, which has no shops or pub. The nearest shop is about 2 miles from the house. The countryside around is really beautiful, with lovely walks on quiet country roads. The cottage is in a good location for touring. It is half-way between Tullow in Carlow and Shillelagh in Wicklow. Dublin is about 55 miles north and the beaches of Wexford are about 30 miles to the east. The major towns of Wexford, Waterford and Kilkenny are within easy driving distance and the whole area is steeped in history back to the 11th century. The area where the cottage is located is on a small hill surrounded by larger hills with mountains in the distance.Because the area is sparsely populated the aie is always clean and fresh.

We are a retired couple in our late sixties and early seventies,with four grown up children , three married with families (seven grandchildren) and one as yet single.One of our sons lives in Munich with his wife and two small children both boys.The two daughters live nearer home one in Clane twenty minutes away the other in Newbridge about thirtyfive minutes away.Our youngest son has just moved into a flat in town.We bought the cottage about three years ago and have fitted it out with pictures ,ornaments and new furniture so it is comfortable and pleasant.We and our family continue to enjoy many happy holidays there.Bill took early retirement at fifty from working with the Dublin local authorities and then worked with a builder developer for many years before finally retiring in early 2008.Helen spent many years as mother and homemaker and for the last ten years has devoted a great deal of her time to counselling victims of abuse.Bill has taken up golf in retirement.Both Bill and Helen are committed christians and supporters of Israel.We are particularly looking for a home exchange with a family in Israel . Should we find a suitable exchange we would invite Helen's sister and husband and another couple who have accompanied us on our visits to Israel in previous years.

Destination

This can be a non-simultaneous exchange. The dates for 2009 are not very flexible because we want to be in Jerusalem for the feast of tabernacles.Our preference would to be close to Tel Aviv.
