Maison

Shanghai is a fascinating city. We are ex-pats from South Africa, living in a huge, luxurious townhouse, surrounded by lakes, in a quiet suburb of Shanghai. The townhouse consists of very large en-suite bedroom with spa, (decorated with an African flavour!), a second ensuite with double bed and a study, with ensuite and a sleeper couch. There is a very well-equipped kitchen and laundry. We have a 52" flatscreen TV in the lounge, and TV's in both bedrooms. There is a big porch (overlooking a moat), which has a large gas bbq. Beautiful gardens, large lakes, 2 x tennis court, gym and indoor pool are in the complex. 6 seater van and driver available, as well as full time cleaner. We have 2 electric scooters that you're welcome to use to explore the vicinity, which is great fun. Very good public transport is also available! Shanghai is cold in December, but all places are really well heated, and the days are usually clear and lovely. It is a fascinating city to explore and I know you will love your holiday here. Use our house as a base, and go to Harbin to see the ice sculptures, or climb the Great Wall near Beijing and see the most incredible sights, probably with a dusting of snow! Cold, but worth every shiver!

Quartier

Our suburb is called Jinqiao, which is 30 - 40 mins from Shanghai's city centre in peak traffic. Walk across the road and you have quiet canals, lined with willow trees and beautifully tended gardens. Fishermen fish in the canals with the most amazing fishing nets, rigged with bampoo poles - a lovely, interesting morning walk! A magnificent golf course is close by. The public transport system is excellent in Shanghai, with taxis, an underground Metro system and a Magnetic bullet train forming an excellent and convenient network.... if you don't want to use our driver and 6 seater van. Up the road is a local grocery store, coffee shop and supermarket, and 2 blocks away a large Carrefour supermarket and a mall, with large gym, shops and many restuarants. The Chinese are very friendly and very helpful, and many of them speak English. Shanghai is an international tourist venue and the sights are truly unforgettable. I am a teacher, (54yrs old) who taught at a British International school, but now only do tutoring from home. John (54yrs old) is a businessman. We are South African, but have lived in Botswana and Australia. We enjoy good wine and good company and are keen to travel and meet people. John is an avid golfer. Our children are grown up (24 and 21yrs old) and live in our house in Australia, but we meet up for our Christmas holidays. We need a holiday home that will accommodate 4 or 5 people.
