Maison

Stately older but fully renovated home (with resident cat) in one of the most sought-after neighbourhoods in the world: safe, quiet, tree-lined streets; helpful neighbours; 5 minute walk to shops/dining/transit; 5-minute drive to the University of British Columbia, with its renowned Chan Centre for the performing arts, and adjacent golf course (playable in winter, and clubs for one right-hander available); nearby hiking and biking forest (2 bikes available, M/F); easy drive or transit to Olympic venues in Vancouver and Richmond; 90-minute drive to Whistler. (Car available for swap [Toyota van, or Honda Fit].)

Our home itself sports all the usual modcons, but is more cozy than jazzy. We enjoy basking in front of the gas fireplace with a book in the winter, or hunkering down in front of the widescreen HDTV with a good movie. And the cat.

Quartier

Our neighbourhood is described locally as West Point Grey. The area is a peninsula bounded by Burrard Inlet to the north, Georgia Strait to the west and the Fraser river to the south. As such it receives constant fresh breezes from the sea, and has no thoroughfares, although it is far from a dead end. High on a headland it boasts beautiful views of the downtown area, mountains, and inlets. Much of the westernmost part of it consist of Pacific Spirit Park, a huge urban forest with a maze of walking and cycling trails, all wrapping one of the most beautiful golf course in Vancouver.

We are a professional couple nearing the end of our working careers in medicine and looking forward to new horizons and friends. We are well-travelled, but only all the more keen to experience new places. We enjoy anchoring ourselves in one spot in order to experience the life around us. We are as committed to the care of others' homes as we expect they would be of ours. We enjoy the outdoors,music, literature and wine, not necessarily in that order. One of us is reasonably fluent in French, the other plays mediocre golf with a passion.

Destination

our primary interest is a warm climate during our winter, and although we realize the 2010 winter olympics is a drawing card for some, others may wish to ski or visit relatives in the "off-season" here; in future years we may also be able to offer a second home (vacation condo in the world-famous wine district of the Okanagan, in the town of Osoyoos), which also offers a fine base for skiing and wine-tasting.
