Maison

Our house was built in 1910 but has been fully-modernised, so it now combines Edwardian period charm with central heating and an Aga in the kitchen. Downstairs, there is a drawing room, separate sitting room, dining room, study with a computer, cloakroom, kitchen, and separate utility room with a washing machine, tumble dryer and boiler. Upstairs there are three double bedrooms, two ensuite, and two single bedrooms, with a family bathroom. There is also a large conservatory where we often eat our meals.

The house is surrounded by a large garden, with an ornamental fish pond, complete with fish and fountain. There is a seating area underneath a pergola which is shaded by a grapevine. There’s also a flourishing herb garden and vegetable garden. The entire garden is surrounded by a large hedge so it’s very private. The house stands on a “green” lane which leads to the next village, so there is almost no passing traffic, making it a very quiet and peaceful place to live.

Quartier

The village is a typical small Cotswold village with a post office/shop, church and pub. We are close to Cirencester, which claims to be the capital of the Cotswolds, and is certainly one of the prettiest of the Cotswold market towns. It has a famous “wool” church, built in the 15c with money donated by wealthy wool merchants, lots of specialist shops, a weekly general market and a fortnightly antiques market. If you’re interested in antiques, then a visit to Tetbury is a must, with its 26 antique shops, not to mention Prince Charles’ new Highgrove farm shop.

Local public transport is poor, but with a car, you can visit all the Cotswold villages within 45 minutes, using our house as a base. Bibury, Bourton-on-the-Water, Burford, Broadway, Chipping Campden and Stow-on-the-Wold are all within easy reach. There is excellent shopping at Bath and Cheltenham, and theatres at Stratford-upon Avon, Bath and Cheltenham, all within an hour’s car journey. If you like visiting houses and gardens, you will be spoilt for choice and there is also the Cotswold Water Park, where you can find sailing, jet-skiing, windsurfing, fishing and even birdwatching. À propos de nous

We are James and Ann, both retired and in our early 60s. James trained as a teacher and after working as a Head of Department in schools, moved to the County Archive Department as Education and Outreach Manager. Ann trained as a social worker and after working with children and families as a fieldworker, spent the last ten years of her career training other social workers. We would now like to spend our early retirement years seeing as much of the rest of the world as we can.

We are experienced exchangers, having exchanged 13 times in three different continents, and every single one has been a really enjoyable experience. We are happy to go anywhere and are very much open to offers, being firm believers in serendipity. We are both non-smokers and it is important to us to exchange with other non-smokers.

We both speak French, and I speak some German and some Italian, and usually try to learn something of the language of the country in which we are staying. I am particularly interested in architecture, and we both love music and the theatre as well as eating and drinking!

Destination

We are very much open to offers. As we are both retired, we can be very flexible with regard to dates and times of an exchange. We are interested in travelling to anywhere in Europe, but also Canada and the USA.
