Maison

This century-old farmhouse was recently entirely renovated and just needs some outside finishing. It has modern concrete floors without threshholds, a very big kitchen/dining room with double doors to a big terrace, a 45m2 lounge with satellite TV with beamer, PS3 and many books in Dutch, English and (some) French.

There are three bedrooms, one with two beds and two with one bed. Guests usually sleep on a bed on the floor in the lounge, especially in summer, when we live outdoors, mostly.

The house is sitting in a 1 hectare (10,000m2) plot with a pond, a trampoline, a cable slide for kids and big oak trees, excellent for climbing and building a hut (at your own risk, of course).
The garden has a camp fire spot and a wild flower field. There is a rough woody area with a path meandering through it and a pond in the middle.

Very light and spacious home with ground floor toilet big enough for handicapped and wheel chair access. The bathrooms - even though they have level floors - are not big enough for a wheelchair to turn though.

We are currently renovating another farm that will have complete bathroom faclities for wheel chair users. As well as an adapted kitchen. This second house will be ready for the 2009 season. It is for renting out but can also be used for swapping.

The house comes with three cats (only one allowed indoors) and a dog, that lives inside, loves to play ball and might or might not stay, depending on arrangements.

Quartier

We are in the middle of the fields in South-Burgundy, in an area called 'The Bresse'. Known for its chicken. There are fields all around, with a small heard of white cattle right next door. Just about 15 of them in a huge field, so no smell.

Our property is situated at 1 hour from Lyon and 1 hour from Dijon, 20 minutes from Tournus with its stunning abbey and the Chardonnay and Macon wine areas. 5 minutes by car to a village with bakery, butcher, pharmacy and bank. And 15 minutes to the farmers market town of Louhans (the stunningly lively monday market is famous in the area. See bresse.info)

The villages around us are very quiet. The area is relatively flat, so ideal for cycling (bicycles available) and hiking. Lots of wild life, deer, hares, pheasant and quail.

À propos de nous

We are a non-smoking Dutch - Japanese couple with a son of 14 and a daughter of 11 years old. Gregor is a copywriter working for Dutch agencies through the internet. Hiromi a painter, with a big studio on the north side of the house.

We like to read and are on the internet all the time.

We spend most of our working hours online, but also like to read and (her) work in the garden.

We love to live here, and for the children the house and garden are great, but we used to live right next to Amsterdam and we miss the big city. That is why we want to exchange houses especially with people offering a city dwelling, not to far from museums, galleries and shops.

Together, we speak Dutch, Japanese, English, French and German.

Destination

We are now looking for an exchange of at least one week around Christmas time, preferably in London.

Our place is interesting for a big family or group of friends that want to get away from the bustle of the big city. There is not much to do except make long walks, sample French culinary pleasures (we have a great modern kitchen and there are plenty of restaurants in the area) our the wine castles in the Maconnais and the Chalonnais and sit sipping it in the lounge by the wood burner.


From 2009 a non-simultanious exchange is possible, with our renovated holiday home, sleeping 6 as well, and with wheel chair adapted downstairs bedroom, bathroom and kitchen.

We want to spend time in big cities, like Paris, London, Zurich, Amsterdam, Berlin.

Because we have several internet sites including a blog to keep up to date, internet access is very important.

We have a car (automatic shift) and bikes available.
