Maison

We have a large, excellent NY apartment to trade- a two bedroom, two full-bathroom, with a second living room easily used as a third private bedroom. There is a private garden with a barbecue. We are on an architecturally fantastic block in Park Slope, Brooklyn. It is named "Montgomery Place", and is a one block street with very little traffic. Time Out New York recently named ours as one of the finest streets to live on in New York City (http://www.timeout.com/newyork/articles/features/4105/the-rankings).

We are 1/2 a block from Prospect Park, a grand public park, designed by Olmsted in the 1860's, which gives the feeling of being in nature. It’s outer loop is just over 3 miles, and is excellent for runners and bicyclers. Large open spaces exist in the park, as well as wooded areas, playgrounds for smaller and older kids, a lake, a free summer concert pavilion and other advantages. Try "Google Earth" to get a look at Montgomery Place and Prospect Park. It's web-site is http://www.prospectpark.org/ .

The subway is nearby and one can reach Manhattan in a short 15 - 20 minutes.

Quartier

Park Slope is an urban neighborhood just outside lower Manhattan. Most city subway lines run through the neighborhood and all parts of Manhattan are easily reached. On the NY subway map access comes from the 'Grand Army Plaza' and '7th Avenue' stops on the red and yellow and orange lines. These stations are very close to our apartment. In 15 to 20 minutes you can be in the Wall St. area or the Village, downtown.

The trip to Manhattan by taxi and subway is very easy and fast (one train, no transfers). The shopping here is excellent, the restaurants are the highest quality, and the neighborhood is extremely safe and family oriented.

My wife, Merrie Koehlert, and I, Greg Koehlert, are in our late 30's, and our daughters, Edie and Nora, are 1 and 4. We are both teachers at the same private high school in Manhattan. Merrie works part time as an art teacher and is a painter. I teach literature and history, run an outdoor education program, and coach a cross country team. We both traveled extensively when we were younger, and now that our kids are old enough we are getting back to exploring the world again. We are interested in family vacations and athletic adventure trips. We value time in cites and time in scenic natural places equally.

Destination

We are looking for a summer exchange in the Northwest. We already have plans to be in Portland, OR in mid August for a few days and plan to make a longer family trip out of it. A couple of weeks would be ideal. Honestly, we're pretty flexible as long as we make the wedding and have some quality time to enjoy part of the region. We are four people, 40 years old and married, and we have daughters who are 6 and 3. We have two cats who can go elsewhere or stay during the exchange, FYI in case you have an allergy.
