Maison

Our 4-bed detached modern home, with large garden, is situated on a hill almost over-looking the Atlantic Ocean (houses now blocking our view, sadly). Salthill beaches and promenade are a 7-minute walk away, the city is a 15-min walk&there's a good bus service. There's a small shopping centre nearby too. Ours is a quiet neighbourhood, mostly families with children of various ages, some retired people, many with dogs but we just have cats (2). They're fairly self-reliant&only come in to be fed and for occasional naps. The house itself has 4 bedrooms, a sittingroom with open fireplace, books, and a baby grand piano. The smaller livingroom has tv with Irish channels and BBC, dvd-player, sofa & many good dvds. We eat in the kitchen around an oak table. There is also a utility room with loo.

Because of the piano, which is very new, I would be unwiling to swap with anyone who has children. The books too are very precious to me (not for their monetary value - there isn't any - but, well, they're my books).

Don't let the fact that we have a fancy piano mislead you - the house itself isn't very fancy. It's fine, but not particularly plush or posh. There's an alarm, but only for the reassurance of my son who went through a period of anxiety a few years ago when my husband and I first separated. I can't think of anything else of relevance about the house at the moment.

Quartier

I've already said most of it above. What to add? There are some lovely gardens in the area; many of my neighbours are as garden-proud as they are house-proud. Beside the estate are two football pitches. There's a grand walk to the sea, with a gorgeous view much of the way. On the way are private tennis courts, gym, and a celebrated golf-course. Along the promenade there's a leisure complex with swimming pool and new gym.

À propos de nous

There's three of us; me, my son, 17 and my daughter, 14. We're all students! I'm doing a masters in theatre and drama but will be finished (all going well) in June. We all like to read, travel, and watch movies.

We have a smattering of French and Irish, and the odd word of Spanish!

Destination

My preferences within the UK are London and Edinburgh. Will consider Cornwall, Devon, and the Lake District; and the Cotswolds...also Yorkshire.
