Maison

Our house is simple but charming. On the second floor there is a bedroom, a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom, a small lobby and two balconies. On the first floor there is another bedroom (for children), a small studio/bedroom and a bathroom. The rooms are of medium size. Above the second floor there is a garage. Under the first floor there is the laundry and a wine cellar. There is no air conditioning (which is, indeed, rather unusual in a typical Swiss house), so the house can get a bit warm in the late July and early August. All windows, the balcony and the garden face the lake. We claim that it is the most beautiful view of the Lugano lake whatsoever, but it is of course disputable (you should have a look at the photos and make your own judgement…).

Quartier

The house is situated in Gandria, one of the best preserved fisher villages of Switzerland, with its typical narrow streets and stone houses. Gandria’s topography – built on a steep hill, facing the sun during the entire day, just above the lake – determines its unique microclimate: it is probably the only place in Switzerland where you can spot real olive trees. Since 2004 Gandria is a part of the larger town of Lugano (52’000 inhabitants). It is just 10 min ride (by car, bus, or boat) from the main piazza of Lugano, with its shopping facilities, nice restaurants, banks and the beautiful lungolago. And yet during your stay in Gandria you will be far away from urbanity: there is just the lake and the virgin mountains in front of you. The “sentiero di Gandria”, a beautiful lakeside path, is a real highlight: you need only 3 minutes to get there and enjoy a pleasant 40 minutes walk (one way) on the edge of the lake. During the summer you can enjoy swimming in the lake and/or canoeing.

À propos de nous

A couple in their early fifties with two teenage boys. Other two grown-up children who visit us regularly. Our main language is Italian. The children speak English as well as some German and French.

Destination

We would like to visit London with the whole family (total: 6 persons). We look for modern houses or apartments in a nice neighbourhood. It doesn’t need to be exactly in the downtown London, but should be close to an underground station.
