Maison

Our house is in the hamlet of Merrymeet. It was built in 1860 and was once two miners' cottages which have now been combined.

There are beamed ceilings throughout the ground floor and you have to mind your head when going through some low doorways! We have central heating (and an open fire in the lounge from November to February!).

In summer we spend most of our time in the garden. We grow lots of fruit and vegetables and, if you are here in the summer, you will able to eat fresh organic produce! We have a lovely grand piano in a light airy room and a dining table which seats 8, for long leisurely meal times!

There are 4 bedrooms. The master bedroom has an extra large double bed - we are both 6 feet! There is an en-suite shower room. In the three other bedrooms there is a double bed in one room; two bunk beds in another; and in the third there is a single bed. There is a new bathroom near these three bedrooms.

There are two adult bicycles for use in the surrounding country lanes. You will need the gears! We are lucky enough to enjoy really good weather in this part of the UK, and spend lots of time in the garden eating al fresco.

Quartier

Merrymeet is approximately 2 miles from the market town of Liskeard in Cornwall, which has shopping and leisure facilities, and a main line railway station with connexion to London Paddington via Plymouth. The city of Plymouth is approx half hour drive away and has an airport - see http://www.plymouthairport.com/ and there is a sea ferry port with daily services to France and Spain. Other fairly close airports are Newquay & Exeter.

Many people in the UK and from Europe come to this part of Cornwall for their holidays. Merrymeet is half an hour from the sea and is an ideal base from which to explore flower fringed country lanes and coastal walks / sandy beaches and coves / some of the best surfing beaches in the UK / unspoilt fishing villages / and granite moorland.

We live on the edge of Bodmin Moor, half an hour from Dartmoor. Merrymeet is quiet - it has no shops / no pubs / two churches and is surrounded by farmland. The nearby village of Menheniot has a lovely pub and a good cricket team to watch on weekends!

We have friendly neighbours who are welcoming and helpful. You would need a car to live at Chough Cottage. Use of our car (VW Golf) would be negotiable.

We are Janet (49) & Kevin (59). Janet will be starting a 3 year Alexander Technique Training course in Montreal in September 2009. We are looking for a property to RENT or HOME SWAP if there is anyone in Montreal who would like to live in Cornwall UK for any part of the time Sept 2009 to July 2012.

We don't mind what sort of property you have as long as it has basic amenities. If it had a piano then that would be wonderful. We have a grand piano here which Janet uses daily for practice.

Janet will be starting a 3 year Alexander Technique Training course in Montreal in September 2009. We are looking for a property to RENT or HOME SWAP if there is anyone in Montreal who would like to live in Cornwall UK for any part of the time Sept 2009 to July 2012.
