Maison

We have a beautifully restored apartment built in 1940 in the best part of Akureyri, very grown and quiet neighborhood. It is 160 square meters big and located 5 minutes by foot to the center of town, swimming pool and shopping mall. And the beautiful north Iceland at your footsteps. Bedrooms are 3, 1 double bed 2 children rooms with adult size beds and 3 more can easily sleep in the other sofas in the apartments. Living room and kitchen are in one large area, built for maximum comfort, gas stove, TV and more if needed one person can sleep on the big sofa there. Entrance is large and with big closets. A "Theater" room is a part of the apartment we use for watching movies and TV there is a computer there with media center and of course internet connection, wireless internet is also in the apartment if needed two can comfortably sleep there. Bathroom has a bath with a shower and is very modern. The whole apartment was rebuilt two years ago by us so it is in great shape and a beautiful apartment.
We own the whole house and are renting out the basement apartment and in the summer we have European tourists there but the two apartments are completely separated with different entrances and superior sound proofing between the apartments.

Quartier

Akureyri is the second biggest city area in Iceland with 17.253 residents so of course can not be regarded a big city on any international standard but never the less it's the biggest town outside the capital Reykjavik.
We live in a very nice grown neighborhood with lots of trees and good distances between the houses. This was known as the bankers street in the 1960's because all the richest businessmen in Akureyri lived there :)
Now it's a quiet street with little traffic and a very nice kindergarten sideways across the street from us so we can watch the kids play out the kitchen window. The playground of the kindergarten is excellent and is open to the public after the kindergarten closes after 16:00 and of course the whole day on Saturdays and Sundays.

À propos de nous

We are a family four, the parents at age 37 this summer and kids 8 and 4 years old.
We are very interested in exploring life in different parts of the world. The husband an IT professional programmer and the wife working from home.
We speak fluent English and can also babble some Scandinavian languages if pressed.
The husband once tried learning French but it did not go well, je parle en peu Francais :)
If a big house is on offer it is possible we would invite one pair of grandparents to join our group.

Destination

We would love to go to the south of France for a visit but we are open to all.
Best times for us are May till the end of August.

We the parents have already made a very nice exchange with a gentleman from Rome and both he and us were very happy with it and it was a very memorable experience that we want to do again with our kids.
