Maison

Charming gray shingled Cape Cod style home on cul-de-sac overlooking a forested bluff with creek and railroad about 900 feet below. Hardwood floors, cozy kitchen, paneled office, fireplace, ceiling fans, window seat. Excellent views from nearly every window all seasons of year. House has cable tv with Playstation and Wii. Two computers with wireless Internet. Picnic shelter, friendly neighbors and outdoor cookouts often.

House is attractive and comfortable.

Quartier

Located in Raleigh Heights, a quiet level neighborhood with interesting well kept homes. Located at the south end of Beckley just off Interstates 64 (East-West) and 77 (North-South) with easy access to cities of interest: Charleston, WV, Charlottesville, VA, Washington, DC, the Ohio River. Still, the neighborhood feels like you're in a forest. Very little traffic.

City swimming pool and youth museum and exhibition coal mine within 10 minutes. Tamarak: the Best of West Virginia arts and crafts with food by The Greenbrier within 15 minutes. Horseback riding nearby at farms above town and at Pipestem State Park about 30 minutes south on I-77. Many State and National Parks within one hour drive.

About 45 minutes west of the New River Gorge Bridge (famous on the back of the West Virginia Quarter). Theatre West Virginia, about 20 minutes from us in a magnificent New River National River and Gorge has scenic views (1,500 feet high) with Broadway and historical plays and shows.

15 minutes south to Winterplace Ski Resort, twenty minutes to great whitewater rafting and kayaking, canoeing, hiking on the New River. We are in a picturesque neighborhood within ten minutes of movies, theatre, many restaurants, and historical sites. Soccer fields, downtown Beckley (about 50,000 pop.), two universities, walking and biking trails and a 10,000 seat conference center with activities all year long.
Off Eisenhower Drive Exit of I-64 and I-77, so we can drive to the state capital of Charleston, on the Kanawha River in 45 minutes, the Ohio River in about two hours, Washington, DC, Richmond, Virginia, and historical Williamsburg in about 4 hours. Virginia Beach is about 5 hours away.

À propos de nous

We are a family of four. I am an English Professor at Mountain State Universtiy. My wife is the Director of Music at Beckley Presbyterian Church, and Director of Music at Theatre West Virginia, the official professional state theatre. We have a daughter, 15 and a son, 13. Two cats: Phil and Lil.

We have several bicycles and sleds you could use for recreation. Swimming and paddleboating and canoeing are all around us within 30 minutes to one hour.

We play tennis and soccer and enjoy friendly parties given by many in the neighborhood. This really is like going back to the 1950s with friendly safe streets, dogs and cats and many squirrels and birds everywhere. The trees and flowers are breathtaking in the srping and fall.

Destination

somewhat flexible on dates. Summers and major holidays are good. May be able to do non-simultaneous dates.
