Maison

Our dormer bungalow, has a large family size kitchen / dining room that looks out over views of the sea. The house is an average size by Irish standards at 1,300 square feet. The sitting room has an open fire and TV with digital and terrestial channels. All rooms are bright and comfortable with large windows overlooking the sea. There are two spacious bedrooms upstairs and one downstairs. The main bedroom has a double bed and en-suite toilet and shower. The other bedroom upstairs has one single bed and one fold out sofa bed. The bedroom downstairs has a double bed.

Solar panels on the room provide lots of hot water in the summer months. There is a large patio area at the front of the house overlooking the sea. The patio has hardwood tables and chairs (seating for 6 /8) and is surrounded by a wide variety of flowers and plants. Our home is situated down a private lane that is 2 minutes walk from the rest of the village and beach. My elderly parents live next door on one side and my sister has a holiday home on the other side. I have two cats which I hope to leave in the house if possible - however if this is a problem we can negotiate this.

Quartier

Although a small village, Duncannon has two nice restaurants, a historic fort originating from the 16th century, three pubs, a post office and a local grocery shop. There is an excellent supermarket 5 minutes drive away. The beach is beautiful and is 2 minutes walk away from the house. Hook head lighthouse is about 20 minutes drive away. It offers a heritage centre, a conducted tour of one of the oldest working lighthouses in Europe, a cafe, carboniferous limestone fossils, costals walks to Slade village and fantastic views of the surrounding coastline. There are too many stunning beaches in the area to describe. The village is a handy drive for either Waterford city, Wexford town or New Ross, or Kilkenny. All of these cities and towns are of historic interest. Waterford is accessible either by road (40 mins) or by road and car ferry (40 mins). Wexford (30 mins), New Ross (30mins), Kilkenny (90 mins), Dublin (2.5 hours by car). Rosslare Ferryport is 45 minutes away, with daily ferries to England and France.

À propos de nous

I am 39 and teach social sciences at the college in Waterford. My son is 15 and is at school. We also hope to bring his cousin and perhaps may be joined by a couple of friends on the exchange, depending on the size of the property / location. My elderly parents live next door. I have a wide range of interests including history, reading, music, swimming, architecture. I would be very respectful of another persons property during an exchange.

Destination

I am able to exchange in August 2008 - from about the 7th to the 22nd, but I can a little bit flexible around those dates.
