Maison

We live in a beautiful split level home (4 levels) that we have renovated extensively. It is very sunny even more so since we changed all the windows and eliminated some walls during the total kitchen renovation in 2006. All new stainless steel appliances with a gas stove.

We have three bedrooms (2 queens size beds and 2 singles - bunk bed) on the top floor and a pull out couch that can sleep 2. There are two bathrooms (one shower only) and a powder room (toilet & sink). There is a washer and dryer for your laundry needs as well as a computer hooked up to a high speed internet connection. A monitored security system included.

You can relax after a long day of sight seeing by enjoying our large sauna or have a cool beverage by our family friendly (fenced) in ground outdoor pool (summer). We have a fairly good size yard (14,000 SF) with a hammock in a shaded area under mature trees. The backyard is very private due to the foliage and a tall fence. A great new gas BBQ is at your disposal to cook and eat outdoors on our deck. If the timing is right, you could enjoy the fruits of our vegetable garden. We contract to have the lawn cut weekly.

You would have access to a VW Passat wagon, bicycles and our canoe.

Quartier

We live in quiet old neighborhood with mature trees and friendly neighbors. There is a bus stop down the street and a train station a 10 minute walk away that both take you to Montreal. We are a 10 minute drive to the airport and 30 min. drive to Downtown Montreal.

There is a small kid's park across the street and a few more parks nearby. There is a great hill to go sliding and outdoor skating rinks close by (Winter). Municipal outdoor tennis courts are available (summer). Lake St-Louis (Montreal is on an island) is a 5-10 minute walk away with several access points.

Montreal is known for being a great city for cyclist and there are many cyclist paths around the Island. You could even pedal to the downtown from our home (big day trip), cycle over Mount Royal, through Old Montreal and even onto the Formula one race track! You can take the train home with the bikes if you wish. Montreal has beautiful winters and an incredible summer festival season (Jazz, Just for Laughs, fireworks, on and on....). Our home would be a great place to use as base for exploring the province and even the US North East as the US border is only a 1 h 15 m drive away.

Our family of 4 comprises of myself Dave (Senior Sales Representative), my spouse Josée (Manager - Clothing Design), my daughter Jade (10) and son Liam (3). We have a tiny dog (Charlie) and a cat (Chatouille) who's bigger than Charlie. We all speak both French and English, though I'm the only mother tongue English speaker.

The retired parents of my friend did several house exchanges and they were very pleased with the experience.

We have traveled extensively (except Liam who has only been in a plane once but wants to go again soon!) and are looking forward to discovering new people and places through a possible home exchange.

Destination

The exchange would have to be simultaneous.

Summer months (end of June to end of August) are the main goal but we would be willing to go to a warm climate in the winter months (Jan-March) for a week or two if you want to experience the joys of snow. The first week in March is great as it is spring break for the kids. Maybe winter 2009 if it's already too late for 2008.
We are willing to discuss possible exchanges for 2008 or 2009.
