Maison

This is a two storey recently remodeled home on a half acre lot. There is a creek in the backyard and many fruit trees and a vegetable garden. There is a large deck overlooking the back yard. The house has a large kitchen, hardwood floors, and four comfortable bedrooms. There is an elderly piano. One and one half bathrooms (bathtub/shower), and an outdoor clawfoot tub in the garden (hot water). The lot is very private with many trees. There are salmon in the creek all year.

Quartier

Blue Lake is a small town of 1200 people in Humboldt County. The town is located in the Mad River Valley, about five miles from the coast. The river is a popular fishing destination for salmon and steelhead in the late fall and winter. It provides a great swimming and hiking destination in the summer, with lots of wildlife such as river otters, bald eagles, hawks, beavers, and an occasional black bear.

Just down the street from my house is Dell Arte, a school for clowns and physical theater that hosts plays, music, and physical theater performances all year. The town has a strong sense of community with pancake breakfasts at the grange, baseball and bocce ball games at the park, and roller skating in the gymnasium.

Just minutes away are beautiful secluded beaches, with several state and federal parks perfect for hiking, exploring, and experiencing nature. Of course I can't forget the Redwoods. Pictures cannot do these trees justice, you have to see them to experience their majesty. Redwood National Park is a half hour drive away and has endless hiking trails. There is also river rafting, ocean kayaking, and sailing (I have a small sailboat you can use if you are an experienced sailor). Surfing and kite boarding are also popular here.

Arcata is the larger town to the west, is the home of Humboldt State University, and has many good restaurants, coffee shops, and book stores.

Wine Country and the Napa Valley is four hours away, and San Francisco is five hours away, perfect for a weekend get away.

I am a 52 year old widow, am a nurse by profession, and have lived in this house for 25 years. My son is grown, but lives close by. I love nature and backpack, hike, sail, river raft, and swim in the river locally. I enjoy traveling and am hoping this house trading will enable me to get to know another country a little more intimately than if I were to go as a usual tourist. My mother traded her house for many years and made some very good friends. I hope to do the same!

Destination

I am flexible about the dates and the length of stay. I am open to anywhere intersesting, historical, or beautiful.
