Maison

I live in an apartment in a duplexed house (that I own) with sleeping arrangements for 3 to 6 or 7 people. The master bedroom has a double bed, office has pull-out double-bed and in the nearly finished basement, there is a futon and my bedroom with a twin-size antique wrought-iron bed. There is a bathroom with shower on the main floor (next to the master bedroom), and a bathroom with tub (and hand-held shower head) in the basement between the room with the futon and my room.)

I have high-speed internet, gas stove, AC, but no dishwasher or cable tv (though a very large TV great for watching DVDs and videos). I also have a 2008 Honda Fit (roomy hatchback) available. I also have a front-load washing machine, but no dryer (I hang my clothes up outside in summer and inside in winter).

There is a huge backyard with table, chairs, chaise lounge etc.

Quartier

I live in a very quiet, family neighbourhood, very near to a great park with wooded area, and a community centre with a pool. I'm near the Kitchener Farmers' market and other downtown attractions, such as the art gallery and concert hall, with world-renowned acoustics. There are also several bus lines nearby.

The area is well located the other farmers' market in Waterloo, which a lot of mennonites have booths at. Nearby is the quaint town of St. Jacob's, with many boutiques, galleries and, yes, more mennonites! Toronto is about an hour away and Niagara Falls, about 1.5 hours.

In the summer, theatre abounds -- we have 2 world-class theatre festivals within driving distance -- the Stratford Festival is about 45 minutes away (Shakespeare and more), and the Shaw Festival in charming Niagara on the Lake, about an hour and a half. There are other recreational opportunities nearby, such as canoing on the Grand River. If you come in winter, there is a local ski hill. We have local theatre, art galleries and more.

À propos de nous

It's just me and my dog, though he will have other arrangements made for him. I work at a local campus and community radio station and do other freelance work, some of which I would hope to be able to bring with me on a trip! I love to travel, but would always love to do more. I have also taken in Home-stay students from around the world, as well as, more recently, two young chaps from Canada World Youth. They are now in Peru, so I was able to take some Spanish lessons, but I speak quite good German, and French, which is getting rustier and rustier, but would probably do in a pinch.

I'm happy for a non-simultaneous exchange and am very flexible.
