Q. I just added a listing. What is my reference number?Top

A. Your reference number is displayed in the Member Area. To access your Member Area and view your reference number:
 
1. Log on using your e-mail and password
 
2. Click Edit Your Listing(s) from the members menu on the left side of the page.
 
The reference number is located just below the brief description for each listing you registered.

Q. I'm registered but do not seem to have a reference number.Top

A. A reference number is automatically assigned to each home exchange listing you add. It is possible that you did not complete the entire registration process. You may have created your logon account but have not yet entered your listing details.
 
To verify whether you have an exchange listing, log on using your e-mail and password. The number of listings is displayed in the Member Area.
 
To add a listing:
 
1. Click Add A New Listing from the member's menu on the left side of the page.
 
2. Complete the form.
 
3. Click Next Step at the bottom of the page to save your changes and continue to the next part of your listing.
 
PLEASE NOTE:
i. If you do not click Next Step and navigate away from the page your updates will be lost.
 
ii. When adding photos, you do not need to click Next Step. Photos are saved as they are uploaded.

Q. I have registered and added my house exchange listing. How do I make changes and add photos?Top

A. To edit your listing and add photos:
 
1. Log on using your e-mail and password
 
2. Click Edit Your Listing(s) from the member's menu on the left side of the page.
 
3. Click on Modify just below the brief description.
 
4. Use the Step-by-Step Guide to navigate to the page you would like to make changes to. Do this by clicking on the appropriate link in the Step-by-Step Guide.
 
5. Make your changes.
 
6. Click Next Step at the bottom of the page to save your changes and continue to the next part of your listing.
 
PLEASE NOTE:
i. If you do not click Next Step and navigate away from the page your updates will be lost.
 
ii. When adding photos, you do not need to click Next Step. Photos are saved as they are uploaded.

Q. How do I change the order of my photos?Top

A. To change the order, you need to delete the photos and upload them again in the order you would like them.
 
Keep in mind that the first and last photos appear on various pages throughout the site. For example, the last photo is displayed on the detailed description page and the photo gallery. While the first one is displayed for searches and from the browse page.

Q. We have multiple properties for exchange. What's the recommended method to register our homes?Top

A. 1st HomeExchange.com is ideal for exchangers with multiple residences. You can have a single Logon account with multiple listings (Premium Membership only).
 
This gives you the most flexibility. Each listing is a separate offer for which you can have different requirements (different destinations, different dates, ...). You can also provide individual details, descriptions, and of course photos for each property.
 
1. Create your Logon account (enter your contact info on the registration page).
 
2. Add a listing for your first property. (Complete steps 1-5 including photos for your first property.)
 
3. To add the next property, click Add A New Listing from the member's menu on the left side of the page.
 
4. Add a listing for your second property. (Complete steps 1-5.)
 
You may also want to relate your properties together by adding a note in the one of the text boxes. We suggest you add the reference numbers of the other listing in the text boxes.
 
For similar text (example: About Us) you can copy and paste your text. You may want to first type your text into Microsoft Notepad and then copy and paste it.

Q. We are interested in a long term house exchange (sabbatical exchange). What's the recommended way to indicate this?Top

A. Include this info in the Title and the Looking For text boxes. Set the dates to the start and end of the long-term house exchange (sabbatical exchange).
 
Make sure to set the length of stay to the maximum number of days you are planning to exchange for. Include keywords such as long-term and sabbatical in your description.
 
You may also want to contact those members with homes in the destination that interests you - even though they may not have indicated interest in a long-term home exchange. You may just come across someone who hadn't thought about a long-term exchange. You just never know!

Q. I've concluded a house swap and have no immediate plans for another exchange. How do I indicate this?Top

A. If you have concluded an exchange and are not looking for another house exchange at this time, you can set your offer to concluded. There's no reason to delete it.
 
To set your offer to concluded:
 
1. Log on.
 
2. Click Edit Your Listing(s) from the member's menu on the left side of the page.
 
3. Click Exchange Concluded below the brief description.
 
Please note that by setting your offer to concluded, the contact form at the bottom of your listing is disabled. Other members will not be able to contact you.

Q. My listing indicates Home Exchange Already Concluded. How do I change this to indicate that I'm interested in an exchange?Top

A. To set your offer to available:
 
1. Log on.
 
2. Click Edit Your Listing(s) from the member's menu on the left side of the page.
 
3. Click Set to Available below the brief description.
 
Please note that while your offer is set to concluded, the contact form at the bottom of your listing is disabled. Other members will not be able to contact you.

Q. How do I remove my property from the listings?Top

A. To delete your listing along with any photos you uploaded:
 
1. Log on.
 
2. Click Edit Your Listing(s) from the member's menu on the left side of the page.
 
3. Delete your listing by clicking Delete below the brief description of your listing.
 
4. Confirm that you wish to delete your listing.
 
Only your listing is deleted. Your Logon account is not removed.
 
 
To delete both your Logon account and your home exchange listing including photos:
 
1. Log on.
 
2. Click Delete Registration from the member's menu on the left side of the page.
 
3. Click Delete at the bottom of the page.
 
4. Confirm that you wish to delete your registration.
 
Your information is immediately removed. There is no possibility to recover your information.
 
 
If you have concluded an exchange and are not looking for another exchange at this time, you can set your offer to concluded instead of deleting it. To set your offer to concluded:
 
1. Log on.
 
2. Click Edit Your Listing(s) from the member's menu on the left side of the page.
 
3. Click Exchange Concluded below the brief description.
 
Please note that by setting your offer to concluded, the contact form at the bottom of your listing is disabled. Other members will not be able to contact you.
