Description

This cottage in the mountains of Costa Rica was built as a weekend retreat almost 5 years ago. Since then it has become my full time home and many upgrades and amenities have been added to the original house. The cottage is in the small hamlet of Herradura, on the border of The Chirripo National Park. The altitude here is just over 5,200 feet (1,600m) so the days are wonderfully sunny and warm and the nights are crisp and clear. The cottage is perched dramatically over the rushing Blanco River, with a spacious outside deck (with BBQ) overhanging the river. On the upper portion of the property, a short walk along the gravel road, is a private waterfall. Spend your day basking in the sun, or take a swim in the pool underneath the waterfall!! There is also a small coffee plantation on the property as well.
The cottage has all of the comforts you will need for an enjoyable, peaceful, unhurried stay. Hot water, washer/dryer, cable T.V., Internet connection, DVD player, Bose Soundock (bring your iPOD), large modern kitchen with slate countertops and appliances, tropical hardwood floors, beamed ceilings and fireplace. A small office with fax and printer are available if you need to be in touch with civilization! At night, after gazing at a billion stars, be lulled to sleep by the sound of the river rushing by.
This is a PRISTINE area of Costa Rica, far from the overdeveloped, overcrowded coastal areas. If you are looking for peace, quiet, fresh air, rushing rivers, dramatic waterfalls and kindly "country folk" neighbors, this is it. The area enjoys some of the best bird watching in the entire country and other activities include horseback riding, trout fishing, day hikes and even the chance to summit the highest point in Costa Rica, Mt. Chirripo, at almost 13,000 feet. On a clear day you can see the Pacific AND Atlantic Oceans!
A 2002 Toyota 4Runner may be included.

Neighborhood

As mentioned, this is the REAL Costa Rica. Unspoiled by development and crowds, this area remains in an earlier time, when oxcarts and horses outnumbered cars. Surrounded by the Chirripo National Park, the area is famous for its high altitude coffee.

About Us

I have been in Costa Rica for more than 20 years and originally came here to surf. I fell in love with the country and its people and decided to make it my home. I believe you will find our little corner of the world as enchanting as I do........ why not come stay in my house and check it out for yourself?

Destination

I would like to visit Argentina/Uruguay in January and February and my dates are flexible. I would like to visit The Dominican Republic in March, and again, my dates are flexible. For the rest of 2008 I am completely open to any exchanges anyone offers!!
