Description

A mid sized cottage style home above Puget Sound between Seattle and Tacoma. It is a beautiful home with modern art, antiques and a sense of casual comfort. The exterior is shingled with red painted wood windows. A porch is off the living room with seating to enjoy the view. Off the TV/Library room are french doors leading to a gazebo with a picnic table and a gas barbecue. An additional private area is created by a privet hedge where we have two lounge chairs. Our yard is dominated by three large cedar trees and provides habitat for a variety of birds. We have plum trees, an apple tree and flower gardens. We have a beautiful view of Puget Sound, Maury/Vashon Island, the lights of Tacoma, and the Olympic Mountains. On our main floor is a front room, a music/computer room(piano, cello, guitars, drums, etc.), a TV room/ library, kitchen, full bath and dining area. Upstairs, we have three bedrooms:large master with king bed and a large deck, small guest room with double bed and small children's room with bunk beds. All of the bedrooms have views of Puget Sound. We have one large bath room with a large jetted tub, separate shower and two sinks. Doors open from the hall and the bedroom as it is the only bath on this floor. In the basement we have laundry and a exercise/TV/ craft room. We are doing some remodeling in this area and we would need to inform you of the progress, when you inquire about our house. We have a three car garage. At this time we have 3 old cars ( we have decided we are not going to replace them until they die!!!) A 92lexus, a 93volvo wagon ( can seat 7) and a 1962 TR 3.

Neighborhood

We moved to our neighborhood when we decided to down size our home 8 years ago. We wanted a place that would allow us to have the best of all worlds that the Puget Sound area provided. Our neighborhood is a beach community on Puget Sound with a mile of private beach, a small trail system for walking, and a community tennis court and children's play area. It is an older community with a variety of homes and families. Our extended community are the cities of Seattle and Tacoma with all of the urban ammenities. Each of these city's center is about 30 minutes driving from our home. We are close to the Cascade range and Mt. Rainier. Also one can drive to the Pacific Ocean beaches for the day. Our only negative is that we do get some aircraft noise from planes coming in to the Seattle Tacoma airport, but that is because our neiborhood is so quiet!

About Us

My husband and I are in our mid-sixties and retired. I was a teacher and my husband retired from the insurance industry. We are both University of Washington graduates. We have two children, a daughter who is a Professor of English Literature at a major university and a son who is a lawyer in Seattle. We have 5 grand children: 4 boys and a girl (adopted from China). Two of the boys, 5 & 7 live near in Seattle. All of our grand children see our house as their favorite destination and we like to keep it that way! Enjoying the many wonderful art museums in the area is an activity we enjoy. We are members of the Rainier Golf and Country Club, the Woodland Park Zoo and the Seattle Maritime Museum. We are season ticket holders to the Seattle Repertory Theater, the Seattle Opera, and Book It theater. We belong to book clubs. We enjoy going to eat at the many GREAT restaurants in the Seattle Tacoma area. We also enjoy going tent camping and hiking in the mountains. In the winter we enjoy going skiing in the near by Cascade Mts. or to the Pacific Ocean beaches to watch the waves.
My husband was born in Norway and speaks Norwegian and bit of German. I stumble in Spanish and Norwegian. We are best with English. Our politics are liberal, however, we respect our conservative friends despite their politics!

Destination

We are totally open to any options. We travel often to visit our daughter, so we have many possible dates open for you. We would rely on you to provide us with information about your community and things we could do. We have such eclectic tastes, that we would be up to almost any adventure! We do not have any animals at this time, but we would be happy to feed and walk yours. (We have owned dogs, cats, and chickens!) We are particularly interested in visiting Italy as we have only been in the far north of Italy. We are interested in South America because it is our sister continent and we have spent little time there. We had planned on going to the Galapagos a few years ago, but had to cancel. Now it has become so expensive. Anyone have any ideas on how we could get there without spending a fortune? We spent a week in Spain once during Easter week. Festivals must be wonderful in South America too. We are interested in China as we have a Chinese grand daughter and we want learn about her culture. Any part of Asia is enticing to us. As for Iceland, we would like to visit the most perfect society on earth (according to magazine articles!) Exotic Madagascar defines adventure for us!
