Description
I have a Luxury Condo, fully furnished, with glassed-in, eat-in balcony and view overlooking wooded golf course, lovely sunsets. Sunny, 2 bedroom, 2 baths, large living room, dining alcove, eat-in kitchen, A/C, cable TV, DVD, computer, washer & dryer in condo.
My place is in an upscale, friendly community of 40 acres, with gated security and many amenities, listed below. 9 miles south is Washington DC, an exciting city, and there are many parks and woodlands nearby.
The many amenities include: indoor & outdoor pools, bocce & tennis courts, shuffleboard, garden walks & gazebos, medical center, dentist, library, bank, & free daily transportation around the community. In this self-contained retirement community, there are 3 inexpensive restaurants and 2 churches: catholic & interfaith. There is bus transportation from the main clubhouse to Washington DC and surrounding areas.
Varied activities, including classes, computer & game rooms (billiards & poker, etc.), are held in two beautiful & spacious Clubhouses with swimming pools. Make new friends!
Also, I have a one-bedroom place with a friend in St. Petersburg, Florida (near Tampa) that, if available, could be used as part of the home exchange or as the exchange. Also open to non simultaneous exchange. No smoking, no children. I'm very interested in Tuscany!
Neighborhood
Immediately outside the secured gate of this retirement community is a small shopping center with restaurants, stores, a super market, post office and a Starbucks Cafe (about 1 mile away). One has the peaceful surroundings of town life with easy access to the city.
Easy transportation (bus and metro) brings you to downtown Washington, DC, the exciting nation's capital, where you will find some of the best museums in the world, See the list below. Nearby is the small village of Olney with much shopping, films, restaurants, a resident theater company, and lovely countryside with farms and woodland areas. Many nature walks and good drives.
In Washington DC, some of the great museums include: The National Gallery, The Smithsonian and its branches, Air & Space, Natural History, Native American (Indian museum) (new and wonderful!), The Archives, The Library of Congress, The Supreme Court, The new Portrait Gallery, and many more. All of these federal institutions are free of charge!!
Then you can tour the White House, Washington & Lincoln Monuments, The FBI, Mount Vernon, Ford's Theater where Lincoln was shot, Arlington Cemetery where JFK is buried, and The Capitol of the U.S. with its House of Representatives and The Senate.
There are private museums as well: The Corcoran, Hirshhorn, Holocaust & Spy Museums, to name just a few! Washington is truly made for sightseeing!
MCI Center is the new concert and sports arena, featuring great shows and games, surrounded by multi-cultural eateries and fine restaurants. George-town is not to be missed either with its beautiful townhouses, international restaurants, and great shopping!
About Us
I'm a single woman, the oldest of 6 siblings, all with beautiful homes and families (some of which you may meet!). I speak Italian since I lived in Rome for 2 years in the 70's. My main interest has always been theater, which I've been involved with all my life. I relocated here from New York City (where I still have an apartment) to care for my ailing mother, who died 2 years ago. My proudest achievement is founding a Sunday School! I have a cat Bellina who is all white and fond of eating and sleeping & requires little care.
I would ask my guest(s) to feed her each morning if we exchange homes -- and if they traveled to other parts of the U.S. (Florida?), I have friends who would watch her. In fact, my adult students in my Italian class would be happy to meet i miei ospiti (my guests)!!!
Regarding theater, I've been performing in the Washington area: "Steel Magnolias," "The Sisters Rosensweig," and recently directed "The King and I" and "South Pacific" for local theaters. (In my earlier years, I starred with Rossano Brazzi in a film called "Angels," based on a true story in the National Archives). Presently I have 3 one-woman shows: one on Amelia Earhart, another on Hildegard von Bingen, and one on Famous Ladies of the Theater.
I love to travel and have taken a trip around the world, visiting many countries and have made exchanges before. My favorite country is Italy!
I love meeting new people, cultures, keeping up with current events, reading, writing, music and the arts. Very open to exchanges in all of Italy at any time as my schedule is flexible!
Destination
I prefer small Italian towns in Tuscany, but would be willing to travel to other parts of Italy, too. Of course, I would not mind Venezia! Mi piace l'Italia!
The dates are completely flexible for years to come, but I generally like a long stay. I am available from 4-13-08 until August 2nd. Then from September (9-16-08) through November.
Yes, this could be a non-simultaneous exchange. I don't need much space when I visit, only a nice room. In exchange, I have a large condo apartment, so 1 or 2 persons would be comfortable here with me. I am very OPEN to various dates & long stays.
Include in scambio?
Mi dispiace che non posso scrivere (o parlare) meglio, ma posso parlare un po' colgli ospiti italiani!
