Description

Near to the Oulu airport, but set in a quiet neighborhood, my home is a typical 30 year old single storey wooden finnish house with sauna... but not so typical - it has 2 bathrooms, and a nice sized garden!
We have 4 bedrooms, and can sleep a minimum 6 people, but maybe as many as 8 or 9 if some were prepared to sleep on sofa etc!
A wood burning sauna, is set off the main bathroom, and there is a small patio deck off from the living room and open plan kitchen, leading out to the large and pretty garden. I use the extra rooms as bed and breakfast accomodation, and the large dining table can seat about 8+people.
We have tv with satelite, washing machine, dish washer, freezer, garage and are pet friendly.

Neighborhood

Oulu is 55min plane ride from Helsinki, and also has links from other scandinavian countries. Balticair, Finnair, Blue1 and SAS all fly in and out of Oulu. Ryanair fly to Tampere in the south which is then a 5 hour train ride to Oulu.
This part of Oulu is called Oulunsalo, and is about 15 kilometres from the main city of Oulu. It is about 20-25 mins away on the bus, or 15 mins by car. Oulunsalo is a nice town - includes a harbour, farm museum, ferry station, small shopping centre etc
Buses are 5 mins walk away, and the airport is 20 mins walk. There are many nice walks or bike rides around, even farm fields. It is a very safe and child friendly area, and there is a small park opposite the house.
Lapland and Rovaneimi is to the north, and easily accessable by car (train or bus also) and is about 90mins drive, and is the official North Pole and home of Santa (www.santaclaus.fi)
Oulu city has museums, university, cathedral great shopping and resturants, and suprisingly lot of night life - clubs, bars and discos, multiplex cinema and other theatres. A harbourside marketplace as well as the old market building which is open year round.

About Us

I am single lady from UK and Canada and sometimes travel alone or with one or two friends.
I work in Oulu as a pre-school teacher, and have many friends in the international community. I speak a little Finnish, and am training to be TEFL instructor. My interests include - photography and art, travel, reading, history, internet/pc, dogs and wildlife, cinema/films and music home decorating antiques and gardening. I love to meet people and experience new cultures, and this is reflected in my home.

Destination

It is possible to have a non-simultanious exchange because I have 3 bedrooms not being used and I am out of the house for most week days at work. This means you could come anytime!
I will be def. be looking for a small place to exchange with in Ont Canada during winter of 2008-09 for a family wedding.
Im happy to care for family pets during an exchange.
