Description

The house was originally built in 1882 and has approxiately 1500 square feet of charming living space with all the modern amenities. There are 3 bedrooms: 1 with a king-sized bed, 1 with a queen-sized bed, and one single bed.

The home is complete with a dishwasher, central air and heat, satellite T.V., and a clothes washer and dryer.

It is within walking and/or biking distance to the the downtown area (about 300 meters away). Close enough for convenience, far enough to not hear the sound of nightlife while you are trying to sleep. It is 2 blocks north of the Castillo de San Marcos (built between 1672-1695), and we are 2 blocks from the Matanzas River/intracoastal waterway. You can walk to the beautiful views in just minutes.

St. Augustine is a lovely romantic town that has Old World charm. It is a two-hour drive to Disney World and the other Orlando theme parks. The house includes the use of our convertible car as well as truck, bikes, Internet and all the facilities needed for a wonderful stay in our town. Prices at local Bed and Breakfast Inns average about $250/night. Why not stay at our house and create your own Bed and Breakfast with more space and privacy? :)

Neighborhood

Our town was founded in 1565 and is the oldest in the United States. Many of the town's streets are made of brick and the town's historic district (about 5 minutes away by foot) is closed to automobilies. Europeans tend to be happy here because of the Spanish, English, and French colonial influences that still exist today. The area is alive with fine and cozy restaurants, historic sites, parks for children, a carosel for children, and water sports (including boat tours of the area and fishing).

Our neighborhood is the first one built outside of the town's walls. The neighborhood is adjacent to the National Park for the historic Castillo de San Marcos. The neighborhood (called the Abbott Tract) is full of large shady oak trees and it has no busy through streets, so it is quiet and relaxing to walk through because there is very little traffic.

The neighborhood is also adjacent to the Nombre de Dios Mission grounds, where the first Catholic religious ceremony was performed on the grounds of "The New World." It also is a lovely park for walking and relaxing meditation. Next to the Mission grounds, to continue your walk, is The Fountain of Youth park where one can drink water for "eternal life" and enjoy feeding peacocks. There is so much to do here that it will be hard to leave, but one must explore the world! Thank you for reading!

About Us

My wife and I are college professors. She teaches in the College of Education at the University of North Florida, and I teach history at St. Johns River Community College. She specializes in English to Speakers of Other Languages, and has some knowledge of French. She was fluent during her college years and studied in Paris back in 1990.

I studied Latin in college (yeah, I know, not a realistic language to study).

Destination

My wife has some university contacts in Nantes, France, so going there would be lovely. We will be traveling during our summer vaction from teaching classes, so are limited in the days/times that we can travel. I would wish this to be a simultaneous exchange.
