Description

Our house is a large, airy, modern home situated on the shores of Port Stephens and just 2 minutes walk to the nearest beach. The house has 4 double bedrooms, 3 on the lower level with a shared, large bathroom with the master suite located on the top floor with en-suite bathroom and walk-in-robe with a separate guest powder room. The lower floor also has a laundry, study, satellite TV, computer and large open lounge area which opens on to it’s own balcony with magnificent water views.

The top floor has solid timber floors, a very large open plan dining, lounge and fully appointed kitchen with wall to wall glass doors opening on to a balcony dining area with BBQ and great water views. The surrounding gum trees house resident populations of Rainbow Lorikeets and Honeyeaters, with many other colourful birds. The entertainment on this floor also contains a satellite TV, surround sound system, and CD/DVD/VCR players.

Neighborhood

Nelson Bay is a vibrant, small town with a distinct “village” feel situated on the shores of Port Stephens. It is located just 2 ½ hours drive north of Sydney in the State of New South Wales on the East coast of Australia. The Port opens onto the Pacific Ocean and is just one hour’s drive from the bustling city of Newcastle. Port Stephens is a superb natural harbour with many white sandy beaches and rocky bays separating the eucalyptus-covered headlands. The Port is home to it’s own resident population of bottle nose dolphins which may be seen year round, with daily trips to view the mighty humpback whales cruising off the Port available from June to November.

Our home is just 2 minutes drive from the town of Nelson Bay, or 10 minutes walk along the foreshore. The area has several fine restaurants, a bustling waterfront and marina, local shops and all amenities including a small cinema (for the odd rainy day). We are also situated just one hour away from the world-renowned vineyards of the Hunter Valley, a treasure trove of fine wines, restaurants and magnificent gardens. Nelson Bay is also situated on the edge of the Tomaree National Park covering over 2000 hectares of coastal bushland, which also includes a resident Koala colony.

There are two local golf courses available as well as swimming, snorkelling, horse riding, bush walking, parasailing, fishing and kayaking all available locally with boats for hire if you wish to do your own thing.

About Us

Robin and Sue are semi retired and have lived locally for 6 years. Sue is a nurse and works part time in aged care and is a very keen quilter and yoga enthusiast. Robin is a keen fisherman, and is learning to play the guitar. We both enjoy travelling, love good wine and food and socialising with friends. Our travelling companions are Alan and Liz, expat Brits now living in the South Island of New Zealand and we can offer home exchanges involving both homes.
Our language abilities are confined to good English, and very poor French and Italian.

Destination

Our preference is for the South of France in the main wine districts. We would prefer an older home in the countryside or a village. We are also interesed in Tuscany, Italy. Our dates are fairly flexible but would rather not travel in the European winter. Our Australian home can be a non simultaneous visit, given some time to arrange and an exchange with the South Island of New Zealand is also possible as a complete package. This home is owned by our travel companions. We are open to all offers and possibilities.
