Description

Inside our lovely home, you will find that the house is large (2800 square feet) and roomy. It is well insulated and toasty warm, well lit and cheery. Our kitchen is well stocked for the gourmet cook. The entire house is wired for sound with built in speakers.

There are laminate floors, a slate gas fireplace that turns on with the flick of a switch. An antique piano, and all new funishings. The walls are pale yellow and cheerfull, the trim white. We have 3 floors, 4 bedrooms, and office (with high speed internet), our basement is set up as a mother-in-law apartment. It has a microwave and mini-fridge. There is a flat screen home theater and a foosball table. The master bath and basement bath have dual showerhead walk in showers.

The neighborhood is called “Sunset Hills”, and in the wintertime we have gorgeous pink sunsets filtering through the snow coverd trees in our backyard. You may see the Aurora Boreallis in the front yard.

We have two young girls so there are sleds, and swing sets and toys. We have two small dachshunds and a cat that would stay with "Granny" while we're gone.

Neighborhood

Recently while in New York we read a statistic that 80% of the worlds population has never seen snow!!!!!! Maybe you would like to stay in our cozy, safe home and experience it? I hope so! One thing is for certain, from November to February there will be snow!

If you are curious about Anchorage's mild winter climate, you may be surprised that it is more like a rocky mountain ski resort than the frosty arctic circle images you see most on tv. For more info about tempatures check (http://www.anchorage.net/605.cfm)

You will find all the info you need and more at this (www.anchorage.net) website about weather and activities in Alaska!

We built and designed our beautiful home ourselves in 2004. Its located in the suburbs of Anchorage, Alaska. We like to think it is the best of all worlds. Its the largest city (approx 300,00) and all amenities (malls, dining, groceries, Wallmart and Costco) are just minutes away. But head North or South outside of the city limits, and you are immediately in the "Last Frontier". We are surrounded by beautiful mountains and a body of water that connects to the ocean. It is not uncommon to have moose is our front yard. (http://www.anchorage.net/442.cfm)

The major ski resort of the area (Alyeska in the city of Girdwood) is 30 minutes to the south of us. 10 minutes to the East is a smaller family ski area (Hillside). A park to the west of us (Kinkaid) has beautifully groomed and well lit cross country ski trails. There are indoor and outdoor ice skating rinks, and an indoor waterpark, all nearby. Alaska is crazy for coffee and good art, we have some fabulous coffee shops and art galleries and restaurants that are not chains in our little-big town.

Our house is located on a quiet dead end street very near the Seward Highway (our only highway). The neighborhood is a family neighborhood. Lots of children and dogs. Old homes and new. Our yard is large, wooded and private, surrounded by a cedar fence.

About Us

I am a freelance graphic designer. I have a private office with private entrance just off my living room. You could hook your laptop up to my fax/printer and wireless internet. I am a mother of two beautiful young girls and I work part time at home in order to spend more time with them. I have my paintings hung throughout our home. I'm a liberal at heart that believes in traditional family life. I love to cook great meals and eat around the table with my family. As a child I traveled on a sailboat with my family. We all LOVE to travel. We all love our little dachshunds too.

I was born and raised here in Anchorage, and so were my girls. Like many Alaskans I am passionate about traveling the world, but wouldnt live anywhere but here. I love Alaska!!!!

My husband Is the main provider for the family, and our lives are structured around his career. He has a managment job in a tourism company. He works incredibly long hours from May to September. In the winters, to make it worth our while, we have a month of vacation time. We generally leave the from mid-December to mid-January so the girls miss less school. We've spent our last few winters in Baja California, Mexico, New Zealand, Australia, and Hawaii. We dont get to Enjoy Alaska summers with Dad so we like to go somewhere warm and do outdoorsy things. We like to hike, and play in the ocean. We still get plenty of winter in the spring and fall.

Destination

Our Alaska house is our primary residence, and so we can only do simultaneous exchanges.

Ideally, we prefer to travel during christmas break and the two weeks directly after this. This is the best possible time for our daughter to miss school. But we would certainly be flexible if someone were to offer us a good trade. It is possible for us to get away from work any time between October and March.

We are world travelers, and excited about seeing anything we havent seen before! We prefer to travel to destinations that are warmer. In you are interested in our home, send us a note, we will respond to any request!
