Description
Private house in quiet, residential area of New York City. There are 3 bedrooms: 1 master w/ queen size bed, 1 smaller, w/full (two people), and one with a twin bed. We also have two comfortable leather couches: one 3 seater and one loveseat. There is a lovely sponge painted fireplace in the living room, the home has a light airy feel to it. It is a ranch house, so all rooms are on one floor, except for the room with the twin, with about five steps to walk down. We have one bathroom, but it has everything except a bidet and jacuzzi. There is central air through out. The side yard is excellent for throwing ball, which my son likes doing, and connected back yard. The property is fenced in with flowers lining the outer edge and vegetables in the back. There are lovely small evergreens lining the front fence, and two large trees in the back: a pear tree and a cherry tree. The lawn is lush. We love our home and our tiny doggy, too.
Neighborhood
Hillcrest is in Queens, a boro of New York City and a quick 30-45 minute commute to midtown Manhattan. The immediate area is quiet, with many families living in private homes, all of whom take pride in their homes. Although there is relative peace and tranquility here, it is only one block from a main road that has everything: transportation to Manhattan, a Chinese supermarket that has everything except bread (but there are two grocery stores, too), a stationary store to restaurants from Burger King to elegant Italian dining, and everything in between. I don't cook much so I have delivery menus for many different cuisines. Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Mexican, and Phillipine, and more. There is also a Thai place that's very good but a little further away about a 1/2 mile down the main road and I don't know if they deliver. There's also a Dunkin Donuts nearby.
In Queens, we are known in NY for our parks that have everything. Cunningham Park, about a mile or so down the main road by bus, has tennis, hiking on a track and in the woods, and bacci. Flushing Meadow Park, a little more complicated to get to from my house, but still accessibe, has a lake with boat rentals and picnicking, which can also be done at Cunningham, I guess. Flushing Meadow Park also houses a few museums (art and historical), a skating rink, a theater, and a tennis stadium, the Arthur Ash Tennis Stadium. With hotels in Manhattan costing, at some places, $200/night, staying in my home can save lots of money.
About Us
My name is Adrienne and my husband is Brian. He's the athletic type and can tell you where to play almost anything. I'm more academic and artsy. I'm a professional clown for children's parties and corporate events and a balloon decorator for parties and other functions. I'm also studying for my MA in Creative Writing. Brian installs security systems in Manhattan. We have two wonderful teen age children, yes, I said teen age and wonderful in the same sentence. I LOVE karaoke and theater and we both love experiencing new places. We may or may not travel with the children because we value our vacations without as well as those with them. We have a delightful doggy named Nugget who is going to be a year the end of 2007. He's a malte-poo, a cross between a maltese and a poodle and probably won't grow to be more than 5 pounds. He's fully trained and just as respectful as our children.
We would really rather not kennel him as he is a part of our family.
When we travel, Brian and I don't always see eye to eye. I'm the Pina Colada under a palm tree kind of person, while Brian is the truly adventurous of us. Our kids are a combination.
Scott is on his way towards college, finishing up his senior year of high school, while Jessie is finishing up with middle school preparing for high school. They're really wonderful kids. Jessie and I are involved in a community theater group, doing Oliver opening this weekend and Scott's been dragged into this world for community service, doing stage crew stuff.
Destination
We are looking for a ski weekend in Pa., Ct., or Ma. at Christmas 2007. We will be travelling with friends so we'll need a home that can accommodate up to 10 people, but some are teens and if there aren't enough beds, they'll bring sleeping bags. We would also like to bring Nugget, our doggy.
