Stay in a river-front home close to vineyards, redwood forests and the Pacific Ocean.

North America / United States / California / Forestville

Close To   Santa Rosa (12 Miles)

Description

The home we want to exchange is our weekend home that is situated on an acre of land on the Russian River with a small, private beach where you can either lounge while you read a good book and watch the canoers go by or jump in the water for a refreshing swim. The home has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Each bedroom sleeps two, and one of the bedrooms has a loft, which sleeps two. There is a wrap-around deck that overlooks the property with a grill and table and chairs for outdoor cooking and dining. There is a fully-stocked, eat-in kitchen with a pantry and a laundry room with a washer and dryer.

Neighborhood

The river house is located approximately 60 miles north of the San Francisco Bay Area in the town of Forestville in western Sonoma County. The nearest city is Santa Rosa, approximately 12 miles east. For decades, this particular part of Sonoma County was mostly known for its Gravenstein apples. Over the last 30 years or so, the vineyards have been slowly replacing the apple orchards. There are now many vineyards with more than a hundred wineries that produce excelent wines and have tasking rooms where most of the wine tasting is free. There are also many very good restaurants in the area, most of which serve locally-grown produce. Besides its wines and fine restaurants, Sonoma County is also known for its relaxed lifestyle, fresh air and friendly locals.

To the west, about 8 miles is Armstrong Woods, an awe-inspiring, ancient redwood forest with walking paths. About another 15 miles west the Russian River meets the Pacific Ocea. Here you will see the beautiful California Coast with beaches, sand dunes and seals.

A stay at our house provides a number of activity options; from the very relaxed like lounging on the deck or on the river beach or taking a walk in the redwoods, to the more physical activities like taking a canoe down the river or bike riding down one of the many country roads. Whatever you decide to do, you will remember your stay at the river house as one where your body and spirit were renewed.

About Us

My husband and I have two grown children who both live and work in New York. We were both born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, and have spent most of our professional lives working in social services. I speak Spanish and my huspand speaks Tagalog. We are interested in traveling with out grown kids while they are both still single and haven't starting raising a family yet.

Destination

The dates are very flexible, and it could be a non-simultaneous exchange. No specific city or region, but would prefer a home that is centrally located so that we could use it as a base from which to take shorter trips to interesting places.
