Description

Ours is a modern, 3200+ sq. ft. suburban home with a spectacular view overlooking the city. Our home has all the latest conveniences (TV’s, Satellite, Cable, Internet, Kitchen and Laundry Appliances etc.). There are four bedrooms sleeping seven (we could make it eight if desired). It is a bungalow style with a main floor and a "walk-out" furnished lower floor. The main floor rooms include Living, Dining, Family, Kitchen/Breakfast, Pantry, Laundry, Library, two Bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, and exit to two Deck/Patios. The fully furnished lower floor has two bedrooms, a bathroom, "media" room (little and big kids love the big screen for TV and DVD's), bar, a large principal room with dining set used as a hobby room, a "sitting'' area and exit to the back garden There is a separate area on this floor for the mechanical facilities. The home basically opens to the back where the view overlooks the city. The multi-level back garden is in full bloom in August. Children are welcome and seem to like to hang out on the lower floor in the TV room. Adults seem to prefer the deck complete with a glass of wine and the view. Our son lives nearby, so would be available in the event some type of assistance might be desired. Other than that, enjoy the experience!

Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is a relatively modern sub-division built on the hills of the Bow River Valley. As such, a walk can be casual or a bit more stenuous, depending on your inclination. Further down by the river there are many walks and bicycle trails. There are many small parks scattered throughout the city. There is a local bus stop across or down the street.
It is a 10-minute walk to a major city bus route, to the local shopping/grocery/pub/restaurants and to an excellent rec/fitness center. There is a major shopping center 10 minutes by car.
Calgary is the home of the world famous "Stampede" and is the gateway to the Canadian Rockies, mountain parks and all the attendant attractions and outdoor activities. In addition to the Stampede, other principal events that bring visitors to Calgary every year include the Calgary International Folk Festival, the Masters Cup (one of the world’s best annual equestrian competitions) at Spruce Meadows, and the Calgary Jazz Festival.
Also located within an hours drive is Drumheller’s Dinosaur Valley which is renowned as the home of the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology.
We are on the west side of the city so escaping to the mountains is made easy with respect to traffic. Calgary is the gateway to the Canadian Rockies which are less than an hour’s drive to the west. There you can find Kananaskis Country (a little known jewel of a park), Banff, Lake Louise, the Columbia Ice Fields and many other natural attractions ideal for day trips.

About Us

We have travelled and worked around the world following a career in the oilfields as a professional engineer and more lately a second career in IT consulting. We are retired with enough activities and hobbies to keep us busy. These include duplicate bridge, hand crafts, and music. Interests include history, politics, reading, needlework and travel.
We have had two very happy exchanges including Scotland and London and are now considering 2008. We would like to experience Ireland and to hear from people that might like to visit Calgary, Canada. We are flexible as to duration (prefer a minimum of three weeks). We are experienced travellers and tourists so our living requirements are quite modest. Your home would be in safe hands. There are two of us with the potential of several adult relatives joining us depending on circumstances. If timing does not work out, we would be happy to “host”, perhaps during the Stampede or ski season or?? We could support five or more if they are not particular. Or we also have a second accommodation available to us here at which we could stay during your visit. We have no pets but can care for yours.

Destination

We are flexible with respect to dates, timing and duration. If you have an interest, please contact us.
Our primary interest is Ireland summer 2008. However, if you are from somewhere warm, a skier, and want a choice of a number of excellent ski areas all within 1.5 hours, please let us know.
Anyone with an interst in Calgary is also invited to contact us.
