Description

Our 1600 sq. ft. home has a master bedroom opens onto a deck with hot tub, a second bedroom that doubles as an office, and two full baths. The living/dining room, master bedroom, and sunroom (a great place to read, write, or nap) overlook the marsh that extends beyond our back garden to a boat harbor, framed by the hills that circle the San Francisco Bay. Located at the end of a cul-de-sac, our home is quiet and peaceful, with all the amenities for a comfortable lifestyle: Dishwasher, microwave, garbage disposal, washer and dryer. High-speed internet access available.

Neighborhood

San Rafael is in Marin County, California, just north of the the Golden Gate Bridge. We're on a peninsula that extends into the San Francisco Bay, with easy access to San Francisco, Berkeley, the Sonoma and Napa wine country, and the beautiful Pacific Coast.

This is a great place to live, work, and play. There's a well-stocked supermarket within walking distance and a twice-weekly farmer’s market a short drive away, along with all the specialty shops and restaurants of Marin County. Golf courses, tennis courts, and hiking and biking trails are close by.

Note: Our home is sometimes available for rent while we travel - minimum of one month.

Our area offers a wide range of arts—music, dance, theatre, galleries—along with some of the best outdoor activities available anywhere. We're only a few minutes from China Camp State Park and a short drive from Mt. Tamalpais, Muir Woods, and the Pt. Reyes National Seashore.

About Us

Jeff is a recently retired university professor and writer; Janis is a writer and developmental editor. We're both learning Italian, and Jeff speaks some Spanish and a little French. Our two grandchildren and our children - son and daughter - currently live in San Francisco. We are experienced exchangers and love immersing ourselves in another place, finding good cafes and restaurants, learning where to shop, exploring the neighborhoods, going to museums, listening to music, and meeting new people.

Destination

For 2008 and 2009, we're seeking both short-term and long-term exchanges.

Our preferred destinations are Rome, Italy; New York City; or Paris, France. But we'll consider all destinations - tempt us. We're responsible and reliable - we'll take good care of your home, water your plants, walk your dog, and be kind to your neighbors.

If we can't find the right exchange, our home might be available for rent - 1 month minimum and as long as 1 year from January 2008.
